If you are missing almost half of your scoring and rebounding, and as you say, the 2 best defensive guys... maybe this team has more depth than several people think.

 

Make no mistake this was a battle and Cooper was very fortunate, lucky, or battle tested to get this win. Rogers was absolutely unconscious in the first half scoring 23 in the first two quarters. However, the adjustment was made at halftime and Rogers ends up with....you guessed it, 23. Boone still built a 12 point lead midway through the 3rd qtr. but the Jags relied on it's foundation of defense to get them back in it found a way to win despite being down two of it's 3 best players. There is a little depth by some role players but nowhere near as much depth as some "other" teams. I thought Michael Spencer's game was HUGE especially on the rebounding end and Houston is coming around nicely now that he's cleared and should be a huge help down the stretch.

 

As for Boone Co., my opinion is they have some talent that the coach is flat out not utilizing. To not have set plays for Robbins and Haynes is staggering to me. Rogers gets his shot off out of pure quickness because he will always be the smallest player on the court and when he catches fire like he did in the first half he is dangerous.

 

Good luck to both teams in the 2nd half of the season and hope everyone gets healthy and stays that way.

As in another post on this thread, I question the officiating in the third quarter . There was a stretch of time in the 3rd where Boone's lead was diminished . During this time , there was tackles, chops, no calls and topped off with a play where Cooper's 35 plowed over a player and Boone's 35 ended up with a foul against him. I know no game is called perfect but in a perfect world Boone wins this game.

Those same calls went against Cooper in the entire first half. In that same 3rd qtr you are talking about the refs, Boone extended it's lead to the largest of the game so you can blame the refs if you want to but I would like think Cooper's defensive intensity picked up from a halftime adjustment to make the comeback. The difference is that one team adjusted to the refs and one team (or coach) didn't. Heck, Sully even got a technical for simply waving off a ref and Boone pushed the lead to 12 with the ball. And to your perfect world comment, I would say had Cooper had it's 30+ points it was missing from 2 of it's starters the outcome may not have been in question....early.

There were definitely calls blown both ways.

IMO Cooper showed that they r more battle tested than Boone cty and a little deeper than most thought

Mr. Sixer, The calls I was questioning was after the big lead. I would agree the two missing would of put up their numbers but that would of taken away from the points scored by others. My only wish is that refs based their calls on the game not on who they feel should be winning based on the past accomplishments . i remember questioning a ref about calls after a Cov Cath game where a lower rank team was getting screwed on calls the whole game. It was so bad , I thought the refs would be in line getting autographs after the game . I asked the ref about certain calls . His answer to me was that the lower ranking team was so disarray , they wasn't going to get a call.

I agree, you do need to see the video, and you would rethink most of your statement. There were several bad calls, as is any sporting event, against both teams. I will also say that the majority of the "questionable" calls went in favor of the visiting team. Anyway, officiating, good or bad is part of the sports landscape. Bottom line is the Jags gutted one out and that's a sign of toughness and understanding what it takes to win. This was a great growing up and learning opportunity for several players.

My post was pretty simple...not having all your starters does make a difference. It was obvious in this game....didn’t know I needed clarification on other games.

Regardless of who you were rooting for, EVERYONE there was able to witness one of the best shooting halves in a long time - Raymond Rogers was absolutely feeling it hitting 7 straight threes. He was putting on a show!
