  1. Hearing Mike Mendenhall from Lafayette...hard to imagine.
  2. Just so I’m tracking... a coach with a history of successes and a long track record working with prestigious programs dealing is gonna get push back based on a hiring decision made by administration? Kelsch nows basketball as well as Newton. Guy deserves a chance. The school doesn’t have a position for a non-certified employee not a person in their school system ready to step up and take on an AD role. Not sure what the fuss is about... ATown will have an EXTREMELY difficult time competing for a regional title let alone a class A or District title. Can they do it??? Sure they can... but you can’t taking steps back throwing stones at the decisions admin makes. Newton is competitive, competent and will be more than willing to go above the call of duty. You can best bet he will work with the necessary people to give the best opportunity to the KIDS of Augusta.
  3. Heard Collier Didn’t get the nod. Decision coming soon.
  4. Miles is tall, but he is not big. Watched him at Catholic and was impressed with his IQ, but tbh I felt lessor opponents really pushed him around and got the best of him physically. Your Oldhams/Collins programs will exploit this, however, their guard play is very savvy and they shoot the ball very well which will either be WV's demise or glory story in the 8th. If WV guards show up, then Miles will show up. He cannot get it done without those guards hitting.
  5. Montverde offers a professional network both academically and athletically way more dynamic and lucrative than Trinity will ever offer the kid. He and is family are making a decision on being a professional human being and giving the best that this youngsters life has to offer. I can't see the kids current development into a professional ball player at this time but is certainly on track to make an impact for a higher level (not UK/DUKE/UCLA/KANSAS, etc.) D-1 program. After a year at Montverde the difference will be far more superior than if he stays at Louisville Trinity... the Buzz Williams/Rick Barnes offers will turn into Roy Williams/Bill Self offers...I digress.
  6. I think the idea is that the new coach sets the expectations with the kids and parents. This coach will need to establish consequences associated with student athletes not responding with the program philosophy. Realistic expectations for the program will need to be set and the parent buy-in happens when that coach is real about the direction Augusta can go. They are at best 2 in the district and ranked 10 or lower in the region. I think you play those youngsters often in the varsity games to develop them to the pace and strength of older student athletes/varsity pace, but you never lose site of the older kids who have put in the work to earn the minutes. If the older guys cannot get it done, you go to the well for opportunities with those younger kiddos. This will be a hit the ground running opportunity for whoever gets the position. If I know ATown like I think I do, they will want progress every day towards the best ball team they can be.
  7. Texas? Good lord... Collier is an assistant under Robbie Graham at GRC girls varsity. Graham said he’s ready for a he’s role. Don’t know Duffie. I Know Newton interviewed.
  8. A HS coach needing to teach a HS player to shoot a layup is like kissing your sister. It isn’t right. Especially this day and age. They have solid people in the community that can make that happen. Whoever they hire needs to be knowledgeable about personnel and how to implement systems to compliment their personnel. They also need to be able to ensure the feeder keeps feeding. That where the money is. Whether they stay or go Augusta will ALWAYS have to battle coaches leaving. Class A schools don’t have the funding to keep a progressive coach. Hinson and Kirk considered opportunity and family to supplement their lifestyles. These are all good opportunities for Augusta to improve through Newton and Collier. Cannot attest to Coach Duffie. Never heard of him but I’m sure he’s qualified. Where’s that old Patrick ball coach that was at Fleming for a year? How come he’s not in the mix?? He just vanish?
  9. Hearing a Robbie Graham product is getting a shot at an interview. Winning background from the Lake Kelly Bball line... Possible that Newton (prior Nicholas Co, now Bath girls coach) is a potential player. Heard Thompson from across the river might be venturing into KY Bball. He has some roots in the 10th. Possibly Himes ... (?) Just rumors though. I feel like whoever they choose ought to be a new coach willing to stay and dedicate to the ATown community of kids and it’s education.
  10. Swolsky will be elegible. St Patrick will be fine in 2-3 years with their middle school so long as they keep their integrity. Mason gained a solid student and kid. He should help quite a bit with their soccer, basketball and baseball programs.
  11. Kid should enroll at Ballard Memorial. Next year... Fulton City and then Fred Fraize... He could take 100% of the shots there rather than 75% of the shots at Marshall. We could really see what he’s made of then.
  12. They hired the right guy. He’s experienced and knows how to coach/teach players. He’ll experience normal growing pains. Bare with the guy for the next couple of years. Beating CovCatholic, Cooper, Holmes, NewCath, etc will be a big challenge until he sets the feeder straight. Best of luck BG!
  13. Reitz leaving WillTown for ATown might not be a bad move. Noticed on his social media he’s needing a tutor for the Praxis 1... that’s the initial test you take before being accepted into an ACP. But then again ATown hired Hinson without the credentials. I’m hearing names not mentioned on this thread. Augusta is after someone specific as I hear it. Gonna let it unfold.
  14. Hoping so... I like those kiddos where they are, but time will tell.
  15. Who would be some quality coaches outside the box that AHS could look into?
  16. Congrats on a very credible hire and intelligent play by the school board. Lay off the guy and let him do his job. I would anticipate those MaCo kids that went down the road to Augusta to be heading back within the next few years. Now MaCo needs to sit back and let this guy do what he needs to do with this program. The interview pool was very competitive and TBH those names will come out in the coming months. In the meantime, know this is the right hire.
  17. Game is won between the tip and he final buzzer. Sounds like both programs duked it out. Sounds like the refs made suspect calls, but .2 seconds never beats you. Hang in there Saints! Good luck to Bracken!
  18. Tough go. Both girls and boys teams downed in their own gym. Cannot believe this program has all these injuries to ACLs and MCLs. Does not make sense to me how key players are routinely hit with such injuries. Someone should tale a hard look into the effectiveness of FC legs weight programs and recovery programs. Very frustrated for these kiddos. They deserve better.
  19. Tough situation. Not sure where to point the fingers. The Perkins kid is suffering here and that’s unfortunate for whatever reason. How embarrassing for his parent to not represent with more professionalism. As for the releasing of the players, timing is WAY off. COuldve nipped this in the bud sooner i believe. But that’s what happens when winning becomes more important than developing good citizens...
  20. I can imagine an old coach secretly smiling over this one... lots of excuses coming out of this loss... Go Saints!
  21. Stovall will adjust in February he is working his team the right way. Tillman/ UHA/ Hoptown/ CC / among others are solid high school teams. A lot goes into planning and preparing each body. I doubt any of the coaches are showing their hands right now. Losses now don’t equate to losses later.
  22. How’s Ethan Haynes doing? Nice to see Boone Co mixing it up with the Cooper boys.
  23. Newport is doing great things under Snapp considering the demographic. These are tough kids to coach and to get bought in. He’s a tremendous soul and those kiddos believe in him. They need to believe in something and Coach Snapp fills it up for them.
