Greenwood is a Big BG-located school with unlimited support from the boosters and you get to coach in a town with more than a Piggly Wiggly. The coach pay in Warren Co. is excellent compared with a lot of the surrounding areas and it is a tremendous school to teach and work in. Let us not forget,t hat just a year ago, Greenwood beat South Warren. It is also a school that has had high levels of success in all sports (they even went to the Final Four in football).

 

Russellville is arguably one of the four best jobs in South Central KY. The facilities are excellent, the stadium is historic, the talent is always there, and you are playing in 1A, where a team like Russellville is almost ALWAYS in the picture for it all.

 

I think these two jobs are just the opposite of tough to fill.

I think 88 is right. If I had the pick of jobs Greenwood would be on the bottom because there’s very little chance of a State title there as long as they are in the district with BG and now SW.

There is a great bit a truth to what you said as a whole. Greenwood being in Bowling Green is very attractive, their boosters are very strong, the coaching pay in Warren County has gotten better & they are realistic there. The numbers in the program always seem to be strong and their weight room was just renovated while Seabolt was there.

 

As for Russellville? Nothing more needs to be said.

He would have something there he never had at Greenwood. An abundance of really fast players. And a school with an expectation of winning year in year out.

There's very little chance of a state title in 90% of KY. In South central KY, Greenwood has won a Regional Championship in the last 10 years...here's a list of area schools that can't say that:

Trigg Co.

Todd Co.

Logan Co.

Grayson Co.

Ohio Co.

Muhlenburg Co.

Butler Co.

Edmonson Co.

Barren Co.

Hart Co.

Caverna

Metcalfe Co.

Warren Central

 

Greenwood has far better boosters, equal or better facilities, and equal or better pay than all of those listed places...it is able to recruit young para-pro coaches because of the city...it is more easily able to hire teacher-coaches because of the sheer size of the school...and it's in BG, so win or lose, you at least get to eat at Double Dogs or BW3s after the game.

 

I'd say there's a good deal more enticement to the Greenwood job than some are realizing.

Greenwood should put a request in to the KHSAA to play up in 6A. Move into District Two with Meade Co, Central Hardin, and North Hardin. The Region is filled out by Davis Co, McCracken Co, Henderson Co, Muhlenberg Co, and Ohio County.

 

A much better situation than facing BG, SW, Owensboro, Christian Co. every year.

It doesn’t have all three you mentioned over Warren Central (facilities), but I digress...

 

The problem with your argument is that those things have basically always been true. And it isn’t as though they’ve had poor coaches. And yet, we have what we have in Greenwood. They’ve never beaten Bowling Green and have only truly come close twice - the last time 13 years ago. That’s a tough, tough thing to deal with in your district. They beat South by one in 2016, which was powerful for their psyche, but otherwise have been drilled by them. Another tough thing to deal with in their district.

 

Yes, they won a region title in the last ten years. Their current situation does not resemble that one. That Greenwood was nearly 1,700-1,800 strong. It did not have South to contend with and was not in a district with the other loc powers. That Greenwood team didn’t play Bowling Green and lost to Warren Central. Even in their best season of school history they were likely third best in the area.

 

I get what you’re arguing. I’m not saying there aren’t desirable elements in their job. What you say is true in terms of booster support, ease of hiring, etc. But the reality is that if you’re talking about going somewhere to win a title, it has proven extremely challenging to do that at Greenwood. One district title, one region title (the only one they’ve played for), does not lie.
