IF you haven't been in the 'arena' you don't have a clue of what it is like to step into a situation like Poynter took on!!. Regardless of who they play he has done an outstanding job just getting a team together that wants to compete. To his credit he took the lessons he learned at Pike County and used those to do a fantastic job at Trimble. Yes Trimble is in over their heads tonight. But, if the trimble kids "fight" the score doesn't matter. It is the willingness to show up at the battle and give all you have that defines improvement. :thumb:

Coach Poynter has done a tremendous job in Bedford---period. There is nothing that can be said to dispute that. One of the first things you learn as a coach is to not listen to anything good or bad that people say. Trimble was bad for many years and he and his staff have built a young program into a respectful program in a short time.

Trimble kids may have gone down Friday to Danville, but they did fight hard to the end, Hats off to them for the effort. There was some postive things in the game for Trimble. Matt Jennings had 9 catched for 171 yards.

Congrats to the Trimble Co players and staff. Sounds like that you are on the upward climb. Im glad to hear Poynter has Coordinators that are doing their job. Maybe he learned from his mistakes at Estill. Good Luck to the team.:ylsuper:

Coach Genton could have had this type of success w/ this type of scheduling. It's all timing..Coach Poynter has done an excellent job to this point and has the area behind him, but what happens when the going gets a little bumpy, will the locals be calling for his head like they did w/ Coach Genton?

 

Evidently, I did not read this very closely the first time. If you want to compare coaches, go back and look at Trimble's 2004 season. In addition to going 0-10, you will find that they gave Spencer County their first varsity win ever. You will also find 0-69 and 0-77 shutouts put on them by Harrodsburg and Danville, respectively. Then skip forward to the 2005 season, where Trimble only lost to Harrodsburg 34-28. Trimble had only graduated 2 kids the year before. So what was the big difference? Each year the score keeps getting closer when they play Danville, too. Why is that? Trimble has played those two teams for several years.

 

You make it sound as if Coach Poynter isn't responsible for the turn around. Granted, he has some fine players to work with, but it is under his direction that they are doing so well.

 

Keep up the good work, Coach Poynter and the Raiders. Your school is alive with school spirit because of you.:thumb:

Trimble out of district opponets are a whopping 12-36 and that is including Eminence who plays 8 man. I truly do think Poynter is doing a great job, but I think we can hold off giving them the state title.

I also think that the NCKC is one of the most competitive conferences in the state-the teams year in & year out are pretty much evenly matched and the games are usually exciting (not only in football but all the sports). As it does with many smaller programs-it comes & goes in cycles--if a coach comes in and gets things exciting that is always a plus---look @ Gallatin County-the area wanted a football team and from what I have read on here and have heard the have a great following (as does Trimble County--now..just was wondering where all these true blue fans were during the lean years?)

Not sure about the rest of them, but since Trimble football returned to varsity in 1996, I have only missed 5 games total - home or away.

True blue then you remember Jimmy Means. I was there with him. I coached the JV/varsity in 97,98 good group of kids, i thought we were decent most of the kids were just learning football. We were pretty good on JV those years 5-2, 7-1....I think there has been a great turnaroud...I helped Doug in hoop and Walter in softball too....

The Trimble County kids showed great heart and fought hard in the game against the Ads Friday. Not surprising that they will finish with a winning season this year.

I do remember Coach Means and really liked him and his system a whole lot. I remember McCutcheon or "Moose" as they called him, both of the Stethen boys (Matthew - QB and Andrew - RB). Yates was a heck of a player - had some knee trouble that hurt him at Campbellsville. I could add in Evan Ogburn and Bailey Stephens. Too bad those boys had not been playing football all of their lives. They are the ones (minus Yates) who won the first District runner-up title. Those were fun years, even if the varsity didn't end up with a winning record (5-6). What ever happened to Means?

Wonder why they were not smart enough to make this schedule one of the last 28 years? Remember they did lose 2 years ago to first year program Spencer. :confused:
