The Bardstown Tigers have IT

Featured Replies

I hear Bardstown is for real but don't they have to get past a team called "DANVILLE?" If they get past them, what's that other team way down in KY, oh yes, "MAYFIELD!" Just curious up here in the northern part of the state. Word up here is whoever wins that side of the state will easily win 1A State Championship.

georgia pass, hmm, thats the play Bardstown used back in the early 80's to beat Mayfield at the end of the game.

No, it will never be EASY. Bardstown scouted Beechwood this past week, and Beechwood is very BIG and very talented.

However, the Tigers beat Danville last year and have a chance, at least, to do it again. Assuming we get to that point, I don't like that the game would be at Danville, very tough to win there and we have failed there twice previously (2000 and 2004). After that, Mayfield would have to come to Bardstown. While the Cardinals certainly pushed us around last year, the 3 1/2 hour drive I have to believe had a major affect upon the Tigers, one that I hope would be reversed this year.

Again, this is all IF we have what IT takes to get there.

1981 - Barry Ballard.

How are Alex and Andy Smith doing? I coached them in middle school several years ago when they had moved away from Bardstown. You could tell from day one that they LOVED Bardstown football! I had a great time with them and it's exciting to see that their team is doing well.

Alex is the starting Tiger QB. Never would have figured it in a million years, and neither did anybody else. His ability to pass to some extent this year, is part of the miracle that is this Tiger team.

Andy is a reserve wideout and plays sort of a 5th man in the secondary, from time to time. Their mom and dad are absolutely in 7th heaven with all of this. Their brother Gabe is over in Iraq. We've tried to find a way to get him to listen to the live webcasts of the game, but he can't get a laptop out in the sand.

What a great family.

Weren't they the ball boys when they were young? Seems like they might have even been when B-town was playing on the carpet. I saw their dad a lot back then. He was always a great man to me.

I'll be pulling for them to win it!

Yeah, Alex and Andy were the ballboys, when their dad "Rock" was coaching in the 90's. Gabe was a player and was called "the Stone." Alex and Andy were called "the Pebbles."

That's funny!

I hope they get IT checked. IT can be dangerous...

Beat me to it. Whatever IT is, Beechwood almost always carries the cure. They tend to knock the IT right out of them.

It seems the Beechwood Tigers have quite often been the :sssh:... :jump:

Yeah, we need to drop that.

Sorry, I didn't know "it" was a sensitive subject... Wow, what a shame if I'm understanding you correctly. His was the strongest throwing arm I've ever seen at the high school level.

I was told a long time ago that that play migrated to Bardstown the year after St. Joe Prep closed. I have also heard other stories, but because of the source, I choose to believe the first one.

I agree. I think the Bardstown team is special this year. Joey Downs has done an excellent job with this team. I think they have exceeded many preseason expectations. I know that if everything holds to form then Bardstown will finish the season against an undefeated Bethlehem Eagle team. What is your thought on that game?
