We didn't play any defense, but we don't play any now. With receivers like Burton, (I can't think of the other guys name) and Little out of the backfield, just imagine. Now blast me.

I agree UK football was fun in those days, but because of Mumme's actions along with help from some other jerks, it is not fun today!!

It may have been FUN to watch and his offense, certainly was....BUT

 

Cheating is cheating, improper is improper and probation resulted under Mumme's watch....This character, had no character and he can coach all he wants, at New Mexico State or wherever he's faded off to.

 

Brooks or Mumme, is no comparison at all....I'll take Brooks over him, any day.

Was it ever shown how much Mumme knew about what Bassett was doing? My impression was that Mumme delegated a lot of the off-the-field stuff and didn't get involved too much until the visits to the home.

 

It is still his fault because he is the guy in charge who delegated it out.

I remember a fairly detailed thread or two, about the Mumme regime and the scandal.....

 

I'll say this, I've been around sports a long time at many levels and when a defensive or offensive coordinator, makes offers or violates rules in some manner....he's very seldom, sailed on that ship by himself or without some discussion with the captain...:thumb:

I could believe it both ways.

 

Mumme's style of coaching gave an impression that he might not be the most responsible person in the world. And I could see him telling "Bassett that he was in charge and just get the top athletes in here." And Bassett took off.

 

And I could see Mumme telling Bassett to offer a few some "perks" to get them here and overcome the UK football stigma.

I believe the first is true. I believe he was clueless and wasn't in charge. He just wanted to coach football and passed off the other stuff. And for that he was at fault as much as if he had did it. And should have been fired.

 

I would 100% agree and the reason why I get so frustrated with Bengals fans who just want to win and don't care about the quality of the character of the players for the Bengals.

:thumb: Another great post strike, Imo there is no way that Bumme didn't know what was going on, NO WAY! Anyone who thinks that he honestly didn't know must be living ina dream world or something. Basset imo was the one doing the dirty work that Mumme was in charge of and promoting. The thing that bothers me the most is that Mumme is off pretty much free and the UK program is still suffering from it.:madman:

I agree that the probation should follow the coach. He is the responsible person.
