I've never been happier to see a coach leave as I was when Mumme left. Ask the fans at NM State what they think about Mumme. He led them to an impressive 0-12 record in his first season in the powerful WAC, and they currently sit at 2-3. That's 2-15 so far at NM State. Could be the worst hire in UK Athletic history.

No the worst hire ever was Rich Brooks.

Mumme is a great offensive mind. UK football was fun and the stands were full.

Now they cannot even get a sellout.

His team at NMSU is vastly improved.

Will get drilled this week by a good Boise team but Cats will get drilled this week too.

I have to disagree. Yes, his style of offense was exciting. But unlike our current coach, Mumme inherited a team with talent (Couch, Yeast, etc) and Brooks inherited a team where the best talent was graduating, had very few good recruits coming in and a reduction in schollys. They were handed totally different situations and levels of talent.

 

I didn't think Mumme was the worse hire in UK history, but the trouble he and Bassett left UK in has to put them at or near the top of the list. Mumme's goal was immediate success at the expense of the future of the program. Brooks is trying to do it the right way and the Cats are getting better.

Archer's defense has worse numbers than Mike Major's.

Bowl bid, if it happens, will be a joke with wins over 6 no name or poor teams.

Curry ever beat anyone with his own players. They had Coach running the option.

Time to stop blaming Mumme for Barnhart's bonehead hire.

We were down 10 before the game ever started with Spurrier vs Brooks.

Look at U of L they hired a good young coach with a vision and look at their program.

We hire an old man with a career losing record and thast is why there are so many empty seats.

But our rifle team and soccer teams are rolling.

I'm not saying Brooks was the best hire that could've been made,but he's not the worst either. I agree Jurich is doing a heck of a job. Only 6 recruited seniors on the roster and only 5 contribute. They are young and I have seen definite signs of improvement. The defense is very suspect at times but they are also young and thin, but with 2 back to back recruiting classes, they will continue to improve.

 

Not a 'Mitch Kool-Aid' drinker, just an honest fan with an opinion different than yours. With very few winning seasons in over 50 years, it is not like Brooks is rebuilding a dynasty and was left with tons of talent.

 

Try making a point without the insults. They really are unbecoming.

Curry was an excellent recruiter and even the self serving Mumme stated when he arrived at UK 'There is some talent here. He (Curry) didn't leave the cupboard bare.'

Brooks inherited a good team with Lorenzen, Abney, etc. I will say the scholly situation has hindered the guy. Brooks just has no vision and cannot generate any excitement around the program plus he has thrown his players under the bus since Day One.

CC how many of those players that got drafted had a pro career? I sure thought when he ran out of Curry's players the talent level dropped off. Am I way off base on this?

Marlon McCree- starting SS for San Diego. Just signed a very good free agent contract in the summer.

 

Eric Kelley- drafed highest (3rd round) and played 3 years for the Vikings.

 

Willie Gary- Played 2 years around the leauge. Played in the Super Bowl for the Rams vs. the Pats in 2001.

 

Omar Smith and Matt Layow- Practice squad/NFL Europe players in New York Giants organization

 

Quentin McCord- Played a couple of years with the Falcons. Had a great game agianst Pittsburg one year in an OT tie

 

Derek Homer- Was cut famously on HBO's show "Hard Knocks" by the Ravens. Played in NFL Europe and for the Lexington Horsemen

 

Jimmy Robinson- Was a reserve practice squad player for TB(during the Super Bowl year) and New Orleans

 

Kenneth Grant- Free agent signed by Washington Redskins

^^^^^ The thing is most of these guys were either 5th year Curry players or mainly recruited by Curry(Joker Phillips). Of this list, only Gary, Homer, and Robinson I think would count as Mumme recruited. Gary played at Valdosta High School with Dusty Bonner, Robinson was a JUCO transfer, and Homer was KY MR. Football during Curry's last year.

Yeah and old Hal had his team in the ballgame.

He was positive with the players and showed emotion something our staff now cannot do.

It was good to see him with the towel on the shoulder drawing up plays in the dirt.

They actually stayed in the game with the #15 BCS ranked squad. Plus I did not hear comments from him bellyaching that they are playing mostly frosh and sophomores.

Never missed a home game in the Mumme Era.

Have yet to enter Commonwealth this year and do not plan to go either. I listen or watch but will not go while AARP man and Archer are down there.
