November 1, 20178 yr That's fine. I'll put it this way then, if enough happens for the SEC champ loser to get back in the top 4, then enough will happen for Penn State to get in the top 4 as well. And we'll have 2 SEC and 2 Big 10 teams. So why would you put Penn State in the top 4? Eye test? They wouldn't have beaten anyone noteworthy by the end of the season.
November 1, 20178 yr You're assuming I think Alabama is going to beat Georgia, which I don't. You’re correct. I think Alabama will will defeat Georgia in a very close game.

November 1, 20178 yr Everyone seems to be throwing Penn State out of the picture. They’ve have lost 1 game. But in that loss, in a hostile and loud environment, they lost by a mere 1 point on a last second play. They led for the huge majority of the game. In my opinion Ohio State is very fortunate that the game was at their place this year in the rotation. It’s still a big win for them but I personally put very little difference in the power rankings of the Buckeyes and Nittany Lions.

I'm going to try and make this sound as unbiased towards my Buckeyes as possible so you can either accept that I'm trying to be objective here or simply throw this opinion out as homerism. But Ohio State was the superior team last Saturday. We essentially spotted them 14 points to start the game. Ohio State dominated that game for the most outside of special teams and was clearly the better team. With that said I think Penn State is a very good team with a great RB and a great QB. Ohio State was fortunate the game was at the horseshoe because going into Happy Valley at night is a tough win for anyone. It's just a different animal. But Ohio State is still the superior team and I believe it was obvious despite the one point differential.

However watching that game, OSU was the more talented team. Their talent level compared to Penn State was much better on both sides of the ball. Luckily for Penn State special teams is also very important, and that was huge for Penn State. However I know as a Notre Dame fan. I would much rather see Penn State than I would OSU. OSU is better. Yes maybe Penn State wins at Penn State. However on a neutral site I think OSU wins the majority of the time against Penn State.

They never stopped OSU/OSU stopped themselves with stupid penalties and dropped passes. Barkley never got going, and if you watch enough football you knew that OSU was a much better team than PSU. Which is why I say what do we really know about PSU. Their claim to fame this year is they almost beat OSU in the shoe.

Despite that, I still think Penn State is a really good team that on eye test alone is going to be talked about getting in at the end of the year. They may not make it based on their schedule, but they'll be a conversation. To me they are one of the 6 best teams in the country.

I'm throwing Penn St out because they do not control their own destiny and it will take too many other teams screwing up for them to be back in it. Or OSU losing two more games. I don't think either will happen so they are out IMO.
November 1, 20178 yr I will also add that Penn St has played 1 good team and they lost. So how good are they really?
November 1, 20178 yr Author I will also add that Penn St has played 1 good team and they lost. So how good are they really? Alabama has played no good teams. So how good are they really? Asking if Penn State is good sounds equally as weird to me.
November 1, 20178 yr Alabama has played no good teams. So how good are they really? Asking if Penn State is good sounds equally as weird to me. You really think that comparison is apples to apples?
November 1, 20178 yr Grant appears to be arguing, based on experience last year presumably, that not making your Conference Championship game can be a good thing. He's able to point to PSU's only loss as being to a Top 3 team on the road. It's a valid point. (As many have pointed out, they suffer from not many / any good wins, but OK.) My beef is that the loser of UGa v. Bama in SEC Champ game (if it happens) went 12-0 and then lost on a neutral site to a Top 3 team. The SEC East is wretched, but UGa has the ND win. Bama's FSU win is now tarnished, but people thought it was good at the time and the SEC West is competent. 12-1 Bama or UGa get in over 11-1 ND for my $ (particularly if it's UGa). Pac12? Child please. Big12? If OU is convincing from here on out (think style points), maybe a 12-1 OU team gets the #4 spot if everything else falls right, but only because of win at tOSU. ACC? unless its a 13-0 Miami or a 12-1 Clemson who throttles the U in the ACC Champ game, I think they get left out.
November 1, 20178 yr Alabama has played no good teams. So how good are they really? Asking if Penn State is good sounds equally as weird to me. Yeah, but for any of this to matter they will have won v. LSU, @ Miss. St. & @ Auburn and played UGa in SEC Champ. Gotta play the hypos.
November 1, 20178 yr Author You really think that comparison is apples to apples? Obviously not. But I think it's ridiculous to question whether Penn State is good based solely on the fact that they have only played 1 good team.
