Obviously the narrative of Bama hasnt played anyone will not be true after they play good teams. But they haven't so far is my point.

Grant appears to be arguing, based on experience last year presumably, that not making your Conference Championship game can be a good thing. He's able to point to PSU's only loss as being to a Top 3 team on the road. It's a valid point. (As many have pointed out, they suffer from not many / any good wins, but OK.)

 

My beef is that the loser of UGa v. Bama in SEC Champ game (if it happens) went 12-0 and then lost on a neutral site to a Top 3 team. The SEC East is wretched, but UGa has the ND win. Bama's FSU win is now tarnished, but people thought it was good at the time and the SEC West is competent. 12-1 Bama or UGa get in over 11-1 ND for my $ (particularly if it's UGa).

Big12? If OU is convincing from here on out (think style points), maybe a 12-1 OU team gets the #4 spot if everything else falls right, but only because of win at tOSU.

Not winning your conference championship is NEVER a good thing. OSU got lucky last year that Penn State got destroyed at Michigan and the Big 12 sucked. Nothing else. If Penn State had 1 loss it would have been a moot point.

I didn't say it wasn't fair. I said to compare the two situations isn't apples to apples. Bama gets some benefit of the doubt. They have much of the same team returning and the best coach in the game. Penn St has done nothing to get the same.

Its not apples to apples because Bama is Bama. I agree they've earned the benefit of the doubt, but how much is too much? If Bama beats LSU they arguably drop out of the top 25, if they beat MSU they maybe drop out, if Georgia beats Auburn and then Bama beats Auburn then Auburn for sure won't be ranked with 4 losses. Is it fair to Alabama to say that LSU and MSU weren't good teams because they fell out of the top 25? Not really, but its not really fair to Penn State when they beat Michigan and Michigan State this week and they both drop out? Other than playing Ohio State I see very little differences between Alabama and Penn State. You mentioned Bama returning a lot, but they didn't return nearly as much as Penn State, Bama lost a lot of their front 7 which is the core of the team and the most important part of their team. Which Penn State returned the most important part of their team. Bama is where they are based on their name not based on what they have done this year. Do they deserve it, obviously they have more than earned the benefit of the doubt. But we don't actually know anything about THIS team because they have not been tested by a good team yet. I hope we can learn a little bit on Saturday, but I'm skeptical about which LSU team shows up.

It's early, I think the only thing we really know if that ND and UGA have a couple of good wins.

Completely fair. We don't know. But if you're going to say we don't know anything about Ohio State and Penn State, it's irresponsible to not have those same questions about Alabama.

Most of my assertions are based on eye test. Based on eye test alone there is a group of teams that are in a league of their own. Georgia, Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State. Oklahoma isn't in that because they have just looked atrocious on defense since playing OSU. I even said after the OSU game that I didn't think OU was a good team and many of you pinned that on me being bitter about my team losing. Whatever. Ohio State played the worst game I've ever seen them play under Urban Meyer and as long as OU stays at 1 loss they should stay ahead of OSU. Despite having who I feel will be the Heisman trophy winner they don't look to be on the same level as the other teams I've named based solely on eye test.
