Steelers 29 Bengals 14

I would rather get sucked into a neutron star than to have to watch 60 minutes of a Marvin Lewis-coached Bengals' team.

Hung out with a couple Jags fans up in Indy today. Told them how I live near Cincy. Talked about the Bengals. They laughed about they let two all pro offensive lineman walk this year. Very very interested to see how my Jags do against that offensive line.

Here is what I don't get. People are acting like them letting Whit and Zeitler go is the reason the line stinks. Do people forget the Bengals were one of the worst lines in football last season and Whit and Zeitler played every down.

So people think they are dumb for not spending a lot of money on two guys that obviuisly last year didn't help the line be any better either. While then also limiting their ability to sign anyone else or extend current players.

I mean I get it, the line sucks. However people are looking at the wrong thing for why the line sucks. The line sucked last year with both of those guys playing, so why would it have been any better this year with them? Their line peoblems weren't going to be fixed by over spending for guys who were apart of one of the worst lines. Their line peoblems go much deeper.

What would people be saying if they did give Whit or Zeitler or both big contracts and then the line still sucked like last season. People would say they were idiots for spending that much them then too and the line would still suck.

I know but he frustrates me.

I get it, but you're playing into his hand when you fire back. It's just not worth it. Trust me.

The happiest lineman on the Bengals is Bodine. The tackles have had so much trouble, peple aren't talking about him any more.

The Bengals line graded out at 13th last year. And they're 30th this year. That seems like a big difference to me.

They gave up one of the most sacks last year in the league didn't they? They also still sucked at running the ball last year didn't they? So while yes Whitworth and Zeitler graded out well at their spots and why as a line they graded out well because of Whitworth and Zeitler grading out so well. The line as a whole gave up constant pressure last year and couldn't run the ball.

So once again if the Bengals did pay both of them and they looked as bad on the line as they did last year. People would say they were idiots for paying so much to keep guys and the line still being terrible. As I mentioned the problem with the line goes deeper than them needing to sign Whit or Zeitler back.

Jags fans laughing at what Bengals do. That makes me laugh.

Jags have won a playoff game more recently than the Bengals. What else you wanna laugh at? Guess we will see in two weeks at which is better.

How many of those sacks did Whitworth and Zeitler give up? The line was rated 13th in the league because of Whit and Zeitler. So, your solution is to let them walk, who gave up 1 sack between them, and replace them with two sorry offensive lineman and hope the get better? They were ranked 13th because we had 2 outstanding lineman.

I know me and you wont agree on this and that's okay. IMO outside of QB, offensive line is the most important thing on the field. From last year the teams that took a next step has a great line. Raiders, Titans, Cowboys, went from a below average team to playoff caliber teams. Protecting your QB, your possible franchise QB, should be the most important factor to a team. While I don't know exactly how the Bengals could have done it, letting two great offensive line players walk hurt the Bengals immensely.

People are acting like the line was good last year. The line was very bad last year. Gave up a lot of pressures and sacks, and wasn't good run blocking. Yet people wanted them to overspend for a 36 year old, and give 50 million to a guard who obviously is not helping the Browns. So yes they are good, but the line was going to be bad this year still even with those two. Plus with it being a weak draft for lineman, it would have been wasted money because the line would have still been bad just like last year was with them.

I know I literally just said the only reason the line was because of Whit and Zeitler because of how high they ranked at their spots. Which is why saying they ranked as 13th as a line last yeat is misleading because it makes it sound like the line as whole was good, when it in fact was not. Two guys being ranked higher is what helped make their average 13th.

The line last year as a whole sucked. It was not a good pass blocking line. Any line that gives up the amount of pressures they did and over 40 sacks is not a good pass blocking line. Not to mention they didn't create hardly any holes at all for the backs last year.

So yes it would have been money wasted because yeah they could have signed them back. But then they wouldn't have had any money anyways to get any other lineman. The draft was very weak at line this year. You don't hear how great any rookie lineman is doing this year do you? So it would have ended up being the exact same line as last year. Which last year even with Whit and Zeitler the line as a hole was bad.

So basically what you wanted was for them to spend over 30 million a year between two guys, just to see the same line as last year. Which last year the line was bad as a whole anyways.

At the end of the day they were in trouble anyway. If they sign them, they couldn't have picked any free agent lineman up even if they wanted to, and the draft was weak for lineman. So the line this year would have been the same as last year and just bad again. Or they could have done what they did and let them walk and give the two young guys one last chance. If they fail which looks like they are. They now have money saved by not signing them, and they have now addressed both offense and defensive spots in the draft last year. To where now they could either spend in free agency and in a draft projected to have better lineman they can completey focus on that.

Sometimes you truly do have to look ahead. Signing them back wasn't going to help the line this year. The line would have been bad just like last year was with them. The draft wasn't going to help them either with a weak draft for lineman. So why not do what they did and sure up all other spots and hope for the best this year, and going into next year with that being really the only big focus and need.

We are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Your argument is like saying, the Bengals offense was bad last year so let's get rid of the best players from it because we know the offense is going to be bad with or without them. Why would you argue to sign Eifert. The offense is bad with or without him. You argue that because you think it makes the team better by signing him. I would argue the offensive line would be better with Whit and Zeitler.

We are just going to have to agree to disagree on this one. This argument sounds like: the Bengals team, as a whole, sucked last year and we know they were going to suck this year, why would we sign any good player if we know the team is going to suck with them or without them.

Imo the Bengals are kind of doing it right. They missed their window originally and got old and bad at spots. So they basically did a rebuild while also trying to compete. They added good talented youth to the defense. A very talented running back, and hopefully a good speed compliment to Green if Ross can end up being anything.

Yes that kind of came at the expense of the line. However they did have to get better in a lot of spots and I feel like for the most part they did besides line. So now when hopefully they have a new coach next year. That new coach would have a lot of pieces in place he needs and would only need to focus on the line in free agency and the draft.

It's kind of funny the reds got killed for signing back older veterans to big contracts who were still producing at that time even though their window was closing. While people are mad for the Bengals not doing that. Just goes to show if you don't win people will think every move is wrong lol. While I think the Bengals actually did it right. Their window was closing with their current group and needed to get younger and more talent in a lot of spots and they did that this year in most spots besides the line. It was basically a rebuild without having to start completely over and trying to compete still. Next year now all focus can and should be the line.
