Do you think Justin Blackburn is the best player in Class 1A? His stats from the last game hasn't been added yet but he has over 1000 yards rushing and 15 Touchdowns. He has also thrown a for over 600 yards and 9 touchdowns.

Tyrese Allen at Paintsville has a D1 scholarship. Hard to argue with that, but that can be about talent and measureables, not necessarily how good he is right now.

Josh Lifson at Kentucky Country Day also is D1.

With Hazard's Corey Smith out for the season, those two are probably the two that have the strongest case to make over Blackburn.

I don’t get how he doesn’t have a D1 offer yet. His time will come and so will the offers. I think him not playing QB last year plays a role in that. He is participating in the blue-grey All American bowl in Jacksonville in January.

Measureables, primarily size and speed, are the keys to a D1 scholarship.

Maybe for sure. I am very high on Blackburn. He is not a natural QB, but plays the position because he is the best athlete on the field and the Panthers need him to have the ball in his hands. He is a hardnosed HS football player. Exceptional runner that is a half step faster than most DBs. Because of his power he breaks most first contact tackles and gets great YAC. He is a hard hitting linebacker and even the teams punter. Rarely off the field, he makes an impact throughout the game. Arguably, best all-around player I have seen on the field this year and I have seen Campbell Co., Dixie, Simon Kenton, Beechwood, Corbin, Bracken Co., Covington Catholic and a few more. Offensively, 5A AJ Mayer of CovCath is just at a level that would be unfair to compare. Apples vs oranges.

I love his competitiveness and see him having a bright future at a Lindsey Wilson, Cumberland University, Hanover type program.

Which school is he at?

Which school is he at?

He’s at Ludlow.

He’s a great player at a school like Ludlow. And would start in the backfield for almost any school in NKY I think he’s tough and quick and a heck of a player. But I don’t know if he’s the first draft choice if you’re “redrafting” all of 1A.

Thanks

Go check out Tyrese Allen's highlight. No doubt Tyrese is a different style player, but he has thrown a 40 yard pass, Allen averages 9 yards a carry on the season, he is also a DL which is where WVU recruited him at 6'4" 290. Jaylyn, Tyrese's younger brother is very highly ranked nationally also and he is only a sophomore. No disrespect to Blackburn, sounds like he is a heck of a player, I have not gotten to watch him play, would love to see Ludlow take a fight to the Beechies. Please post Blackburn's hudl? Would love to see him play!

^^ After marveling at the running prowess of Blackburn, go back and watch a second time of how totally dominant the Ludlow O-Line was in blocking, and how long they were all able to hold their blocks, taking away the Brossart first line of defense.

During the broadcast of the game, I picked up on this very quickly, and even when we were able to stop the big play, the Panthers consistently were getting 6 and 7 yard pickups on first down.

Pretty impressive! And a bit surprising for a team (Brossart) coming off of a week where we only gave up one first down in the first half, and two first downs in the "prime time" second half (before the JVs finished it out), to merely mortal Nicholas County, who boasted a superior running game coming into the Brossart game.

I can't say if he's the best player in Class A but what I saw Friday was no doubt the best individual single game performance that I have ever seen in my 60 years on this earth. Only thing hurting him is his size but he makes up for that in grit, determination and heart.

Blackburn is a terrific player. KCD faced him in the playoffs in 2015....while he didn't have any rushing touchdowns, he passed for two and ran for nearly 200 yards and played very solid defense....that as a SOPHOMORE.

Watched him on tape against Carroll County in Ludlow's opening game and he put on a show there as well....insane numbers running and passing.

With Beechwood and a possible playoff tilt against KCD remaining on the schedule, Blackburn will have a number of chances to prove he's the best against the best that 1A has out there. And that should make any football fan salivate, no matter what the classification. All the best of luck to him the rest of the season and at the next level.

Looking at his highlight reel, he reminds me a lot of Zach Sowder who graduated from Scott, who was virtually their whole offense. He had a game in the playoffs against Johnson Central where he rushed for almost 350 yards and had a ton of tackles on defense. He went on to be a 4 year starter at Georgetown, and had a real nice college career. Blackburn looks to be a better thrower, but I could see him having a similar type career at a place like Georgetown.
