gchs_uk9 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Elizabethtown has spent the entire season ranked among the top five in Class 3A and have compiled a 4-1 record. They have impressive wins over Franklin-Simpson and North Hardin, and a competitive loss to 2A power Christian Academy-Louisville. Problem is, I've not talked to many folks about them and I'm not sure who on BGP has seen the Panthers play. In the 3A Notebook last week, Larue County's coach Josh Jaggers said "People who haven’t seen them don’t really know how absolutely loaded they are. They have talent and game breaking speed everywhere. They are as talented [as] just about any 3A team in the state." http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-football-high/3a-notebook-larue-353451.html So the question begs, can this team win a state championship? Can this team move beyond the state semifinal round where the last two years have ended? Thoughts?
dognation2 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 The little bit that I've seen: they have lots of speed at the skill positions. I don't know how good the o line and d lines are. They held North Hardin to 1 td (North got a late garbage score), so the defense is probably pretty good. Of course the wing t is hitting on all it's cylinders. One thing you can bank on is they are well coached. Coach Brown has that machine rolling right now. State Champs- I don't know, but they will be a tough out for most.
ThrowItDeep Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 E-town is a legit contender for Class AAA. Can they win it? Possible. Would be my pick to get to the state championship game. If they can get healthy (O-Line), they will be even more dangerous. Very well coached.
FSfan Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I saw them here at Franklin-Simpson the first game of the year. They were faster than FS, which shocked me as that rarely happens. Jay Becherer at RB is probably the best player on the team. I could tell they had a lot of experience because they played an almost mistake-free game. They returned all but one starter from last year I think. They can run it or pass it. They didn't seem to be huge in the lines but they were very effective. Ran some wing t but also had a lot of shotgun snaps as well.
MrKnowNothing Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I have seen Etown and Boyle county-- I would like to see those two teams play.
Big Saucy Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 I think Etown will make a deep run, but when they run into Boyle I think it stops there. Boyle will be too much in the offensive and defensive lines. Etown has the skill in the backfield to keep them in the game, but ultimately i am not sure they have beef upfront. I think Belfry, Lex Cath, Boyle, and potentially Lou Central are all better 3A teams this year. Etown has a nice team for sure.
bulldog6408 Posted September 28, 2017 Posted September 28, 2017 Etown is by far the best team in Hardin County and I also believe Mark brown gets over the hump and finally wins another state title! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it
DCB Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Anybody see the Boyle/Central playoff game last year? Anybody see the Etown/Central playoff game last year? Both teams are pretty much the same personnel wise as last season correct? Obviously a year bigger, stronger, and faster but still mostly the same kids. Boyle was dominated and beaten handily by 31 points. Etown took Central to the wire losing on a jump ball TD pass in the final seconds. My money is on the Panthers to make it to the final. This of course is dependent on both teams even making it to the Semifinals. Caldwell and Lex Cath are not pushovers.
85_Rebel Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I would be delighted to see a Boyle @ Etown Semi-Final game on Nov. 24th. It would mean Boyle has truly gone 'through the wall' and advanced well beyond a 2nd round playoff loss, a hurdle the Rebels have been unable to do in recent years. However, there is so much football to be played, who knows what happens now till Thanksgiving weekend.
Hardin County Preps Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Not sure what koolaid you are sipping, but I doubt very seriously that E-town could beat Central Hardin. That is for another thread, though. Based on watching E-town and the size and physicality of CAL on both sides of the ball, I think E-town has trouble with Boyle County, Belfry and Lexington Catholic come playoff time.
DCB Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Etown is smaller up front than every team they play. To beat Etown you have to out athlete them and Etown is loaded with athletes. Etown dominated CAL on both sides of the ball for a quarter and a half before a knucklehead unnecessary roughness penalty on a 3rd down stop changed the momentum and CAL took over from there. If Etown gets the ball back in that situation, up 9-0 with the momentum, that game could have ended very differently.
Big Saucy Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Etown dominated Cal for a quarter ? I don't remember that per say. If I remember correctly Etown was held to well less than 100 yards rushing for the game. That's not what I call dominance over anyone. I thought Etown played well enough on defense to keep them in the game. Just my thoughts.
DCB Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 According to Nathaniel Bryan who covered the game for the CJ Etown had 56 yards of offense on 14 plays CAL had 8 yards on 13 plays Outgained them 7-1, picked off a pass and forced a safety. Led 9-0. In my book that's domination. Obviously things went terribly wrong for the Panthers after that as they were the ones dominated the rest of the way.
Watusi Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 Etown is smaller up front than every team they play. To beat Etown you have to out athlete them... Maybe, if your team plays a similar style that is probably true. Most teams are not going to be able to out athlete them. A team who plays a different style may be able to out-physical them and win. :sssh:
