Mark Foley

I hope you are also targeting any democrats who may have known about this and held onto the information for political purposes. I think everyone who knew about this and kept it quiet should lose their jobs at the minimum.

I agree. Whether it was a Republican trying to protect the party or a Democrat waiting to waylay the GOP, both are guilty of allowing such horrendous behavior continue unabated.

Should the newspaper people in St Petersburg who were aware of some of the emails but decided that they weren't newsworthy enough to print also lose their jobs?

Sad thing is, Bush is standing by Hastert while a lot of far right wingers are calling for Hastert to quit, this will defiantly hurt him and the republicans, He and the rest of the Whitehouse just doesn't get it.

Republican majority leader Boehner, said today in an interview with a Cincinnati radio station that he thought that Hastert was handling the situation, and that is was up to Hastert, and ONLY Hastert, to follow up on this and it was either he either ignored it or it was gross negligence. (This is a smart man, not backing up anyone who knew about this and did nothing, including Hastert). He also predicts Foley will end up in jail over this too.

Top republican officials are already giving up on Foley's seat even though they have a replacement.

HYPOCRISY

If only Democrats had the same moral outrage with a married President actually getting it on with a young intern in the Oval Office.

IMVHO it's very premature to pass judgement on Hastert or anyone else involved.

I'm surprised that the conversation has gotten this far without mention of Gerry Studds.

That would be unfair to bring up a Democrat Congressman who had "hands-on" relations with a 17 year-old page, and didn't admit it for ten years. He was a man of such integrity however, that he literally turned his back on the House as they censured him.

Massachusetts Democrats were so appalled they re-elected him to five more terms following his censure... a real class act. :thumb:

The affair happened in 1973, but Tip O'Neil also from Massachusetts, kept his job as the Speaker of the House from 1977 until 1987.

But yeah, I can see the Democrats point here, Hastert has to go.

Welcome to BGP 007... :thumb:

Don't worry, after your first hundred posts or so, you'll relax and be more inclined to open up and tell us what you really think...

I heard this on the radio yesterday... and this is an exact quote:

"Florida Republican Mark Foley's seat is up for grabs"

I nearly ran off the road...

There is a huge difference when adults are involved. It doesn't make it right, but it does make it different.

Wait and see - this will be spun in a way that makes it look like Foley was "entrapped" by the 16-year old.

PS:

"It's vile. It's more sad than anything else, to see someone with such potential throw it all down the drain because of a sexual addiction." Rep. Mark Foley, R-West Palm Beach, on Bill Clinton - 1998

pathetic isn't it.

Thank you Fastbreak. :thumb:

I'll just take it easy until I get the hang of things.

Does the phrase "Conditional Ethics" ring a bell?

Well, how about Mel Reynolds? I believe a certain hero of the Democrats even commuted the sentence of this guy.

Lets toss Newt in there. 3 affairs and left his first wife dying of cancer to marry number 2. What a guy. At least he did the paperwork.

And how old was Monica? Sure wasn't 18 was she? She was an adult. Hmmm

The fact is, the most conservative groups are calling for his Hasterts head, I do believe that is the republican strong hold? If they are up in arms about this and calling for Hastert to quit, then something is wrong.

Some of you really need to do some Googling tonight, as I pointed out, the most conservative groups of the republican party are the ones saying Hastert has to go.
