Republican Party Chairman Sam West- caught dressing as a woman.

That's definitely outside the norm but it's also not illegal. Also, are you implying that I should look down upon him because he prefers to dress as a woman? Is that not a less drastic "life-style" choice than some other "life-style" choices?

At least some of our skeletons will remain buried instead of returning as political zombies forever roaming the land of the living... :scared:

Glad I could help.

They are just trying to MINIMIZE THE DAMAGE.
How is Foley resigning, with an investigation into what he actually did, along with who knew what, when and what they did or didn't do about it trying to minimize anything?

Are we going back to the days of vigilantes and lynch mobs?

If you suddenly get the urge to hug a tree or put a "Hillary 2008" bumper sticker on your car then then you know you're afflicted with a serious disease and you should act immediately by reciting the 10 Commandments five times as fast as you can and renewing your membership in the National Rifle Association.

Passing judgement before all facts are known is wrong regardless from where the calls are coming. Also, I doubt that there are significant numbers of conservatives who are calling for Hastert's ouster as you seem to indicate. I'm sure you can find a few but most conservative's that I have heard are either defending Hastert or adopting a wait-and-see attitude. Could it be that someone is engaging in some wishful thinking? Or perhaps trying to incite the people to a public lynching? After all the real goal is to put Democrats back in power isn't it?

I was listening to a radio report a few minutes ago — I believe it was ABC radio — that stated the Washington Times, of all papers, called for Hastert to step down. That's about as conservative as it gets.

This computer I'm working on is not terribly web-friendly, especially when it comes to newspaper sites, so if anyone could check out the WT site and post a link to this article (I would guess it is an editorial)? Thanks.

Like I said, I'm sure you can find a few. However, it doesn't matter if it's a few or everyone in the country calling for Hastert's ouster. Rushing to judgement is still rushing to judgement and should be avoided. Also, I have already in this thread asked the question what should Hastert have done differently and people have yet to answer it.

Don't be surprised if this backfires when the dust finally settles and we know who knew what and when. Afterall, how many instant messages do you have saved on your computer from three ago? Somebody kept over 50.

I think that the fact that the extreme far right is calling for this, as well as others in the republican party speaks volumes. Remember, the extreme far right are the same ones who got the republicans, including Bush, in office, do you really want to play games with them? Foley's district is very heavily republican, but top republicans have stated they are already giving up on that district? Unless some republicans wake up this could be a domino effect.

I find it interesting that we are talking about a 16 year old page, yet people want to bring up Clinton's affairs with a 22 year old adult. Lets stick with now, this is something serious, an affair with a 22 year old is not.

As Fastbreak, a republican, stated in post #3. The political aspects of this is secondary.

A party that thinks they are closer to God, Kid's and family than the democrats? It's not only what Foley did, it's that others tried to cover it up, looking out for one of their own, including the speaker of the house, it's time to clean house! BTW, this kid is now getting threats now too.

I find it sad, that when some brings some of this stuff up, that some people start talking about Clinton, Monica, and how he was married. Sad, just sad you can't see that there is a HUGE difference between a 16 year old and a 22 year old adult. A HUGE difference between a page (a high school kid), and an intern (a college student).

First off, at least in this issue, Foley is not a pedophile as some have stated, that term/definition is for someone involved with someone under the age of 13. A sexual predator? maybe, did you see some of these emails or messages? I am very liberal, but some of this stuff was wild! And coming from someone on Capitol Hill? OK, maybe we should wait to see what Hastert's involvement was, but as I said, the ultra conservative ranks are wanting him out, keeping him will only make them even more upset.

Second, the age of consent in DC is 16. BUT, the thing is, Foley was in a position of power, a person who could make or break this kids career, as well as send him packing back home. Foley was in congress, he had a lot of power over this kid as well as other pages. So was are talking about power over a kid, and Foley used this to his advantage. Plus he was asking for sexual pics of someone under 18, which is illegal nationwide.

A lot of states have laws saying if you are in a position of power, or authority over a kid or teen, you cannot have these kinds of contacts with them. Example, if you are a teacher in Ohio, you cannot have these kinds of contacts or sexual involvement with any student in that district, even if they are over 18, some colleges have this as well. Now, imagine this 16 year old, and here is this big and powerful person on Capitol Hill sending you these emails, what is he going to think? That the party is full of blow hards trying to convince everyone that they are so clean and innocent and that the only way to get anywhere in the world, or to vault your career or political career is to send a congressman pics of your private area and have these types of talks online with them? If it's not already a law concerning this, there should be. If you are elected to Capitol Hill you are not to have any sexual contacts with the pages, even if they are 18, it should be these pages are protected until they are 20 or 21.

But, at least in some of the IM's Foley was in Florida, and the age of consent there is 18, and it's a 3rd degree felony. Plus, some of the stuff he was asking for, as in the pics, is illegal. If this was the average Joe, asking for those kind of pics, they would be breaking down his door right now confiscating his computers to check what else he has done or who else he did this to, as they are hauling him off to jail. Where is the justice?

Did the people who knew about this turn the other cheek on this issue just because the parent of this kid did not want to press charges? OK, let's say that someone in your town molested a 14 year old kid, and the parents say they don't want to press charges and all they want is the person to move away from the community. Do you actually think that if it was anyone else you would be able to just walk away? I don't think so.

Why is he in rehab now? Alcoholism is not a legal defense. If it was someone that was not in power or who had money they would be in jail right now.

Now Foley's people are spinning this as we speak. CLAIMING that Foley was molested by a clergyman when he was a kid. COME ON! I would possibly believe that if he made this statement before he knew he was in trouble with the law. Why is it when someone is caught they all of a sudden bring this up? Just trying to get out of trouble more times than not.

He CLAIMS that he was drunk when he sent these messages. Odd thing is, the time/date stamps show that he sent these messages just minutes before and, or after he was on the floor of the house. So I guess he either sobered up real quick, or he was drunk when he was on the house floor.

(BTW) I know of a few people who save all messages sent to them, not sure for how long though. But, just because this kid saved them doesn't mean anything, the fact still this is about Foley's conduct, and who knew about it. Plus, I am thinking when Foley started talking to this kid in this manner he started to save them, nothing wrong there, just looking out for himself, something Foley did not do.

I applaud the republicans on BGP's that sees this is not the same thing as the Clinton and Monica issue. This is not about republicans or democrats, not about Foley being gay, not about Foley's messages. It's about a person in power, and in power over a kid to get what he wants.

As Fastbreak, a republican, stated in post #3. The political aspects of this is secondary.
Hey... what makes you think I'm a Republican? :irked:
