There appears to be more than one page involved and it seems that they were different ages and in different locations. Druge is reporting that the page involved in one of the more infamous IM's was 18 at the time. In general I agree that it will come down to the exact age of those involved, the location of those involved, and the laws that were applicable at the time the events occured. It would appear that it will take some time to sort out those details.

Our society's mindset is not one to wait till we have all the facts before we rush to judgement, let's just rush.

It seems that which page received what and what age they were, will be lost in the stories. And any and all pages will end up being attributed to going to the youngest.

It seems Ken Lucas got into some hot water on this issue and along the lines of what Newt Gingrich said on Meet the Press.....

Democratic Congressional candidate Ken Lucas has leveled intense criticism at U.S. House GOP leadership for how it has handled the situation regarding disgraced former Congressman Mark Foley.

Lucas called on House Speaker Dennis Hastert to resign after it was reported Wednesday that he was alerted two years ago that Foley, a Florida Republican, was exchanging sexually explicit electronic messages with male teenage Congressional pages.

Lucas has challenged his opponent, Republican U.S. Rep. Geoff Davis, to also call for Hastert's ouster.

"I ... served with Speaker Hastert and believe him to be a good man," Lucas said in a statement. "However, these aren't ordinary times or ordinary circumstances and the lack of urgency in his response to this matter must have consequences."

But it is Lucas taking heat from a gay rights group for comments he made Tuesday to the editorial board at the Kentucky Post.

"Those folks (in leadership) had plenty of warning about what was going on," Lucas said, according to the paper. "It was common knowledge that Foley was a gay man. To me, when people in positions of leadership saw things around the edges, that should've raised red flags."

When asked to clarify his position, Lucas said that "if this were a man with a wife and a family, I don't know that that shoots up a flag."

Lucas later issued a statement to the Post and other media saying he misspoke and should not have speculated about Foley's sexuality. Foley's lawyer confirmed that he is gay.

This is an example of how the press is reporting this incident that I mentioned previously in this thread. The reports leave the impression that Hastert was aware of the explicit nature of some of the communications when he has repeatedly maintained that he was only aware of the much more tame emails.

It is REPORTED, not DOCUMENTED that Foley made offers to several pages who were going to visit Washington a place to stay in return for sexual favors. One would have to believe that they would have had to have left the Page Program and were returning to visit Washington and would probably be close to 18 years old but we don't know the age for sure.

The real issue is the cover up, however.

Honestly, for me it is neither. Both sides consistently cover up things and it is not a surprise when it is done again. If we put Dems in, they do the same thing. You can just quickly go back to the great "Conservative conspiracy" that Hilary brought up in the Monica/Bill scandal.

And since he is not my rep, it is not an essential story to me either. If I never read another thing about it, then I would be better off for it.

I think it is a big issue for those that want to make it a big issue to fit into their purposes.

You can't have it both ways DD. Either a story has credibility when it is "reported" and the media is not being fair with Hastert or Ken Lucas is reckless in calling for Hastert's resignation based upon a story who's credibility has not been established.

I understand people on both sides of the isle have called for Hastert to resign.

Is it premature? Probably.

I heard the Mark Foley's favorite show on ESPN is Around the Horn. Apparently he can't get enough of Woody Paige.

No, you're hoping the real issue is a cover up. However the real issue is and should be that pages, interns and other staff should not be subjected to sexual invitations by government officials, regardless of the age of the victim. There should be a non-fraternization law, just as there is in the military, and Congressmen, Senators and Presidents who violate the law should be prosecuted.

My point is, it seems like it is never the act that kills these politicians, its the coverup. (ie Clinton where infidelity turns into perjery, Nixon where a breakin turns into destroying evidence and obstructing justice ect.)

Amen... :thumb:

...since true leeches can't control themselves, harsher measures are absolutely in order.

Age and the appearance of consent are distractions that should not even be issues. The fact that a target is a minor only amplifies the "wrongness" of such actions IMO.

The opinion you post reflects the heart of the problem. The act should be what draws punishment, and anyone found to be covering up such garbage is just as guilty in my book.

The fact that Clinton, Studds, and others have been able to get away with the things they have done in office, and had their actions defended by blind partisans reveals the true depravity of our society.

This is not a Republican/Democrat issue to me, but a matter of doing what is right. These guys want to craft and institute the laws of our land, they willingly pursue positions of power and great responsibility. They get paid far above average Americans with ridiculous benefits. We have every right to demand and expect they live up to a higher standard than a frat house toga party.

I saw this on Conan O'Brien the other night and it cracked me up.

Fox news showed Foley and marked him as a Democrat (with the (D) next to his name) after his incident. Apparently this isn't the first time they've done this.

Richard Nixon (D) during his resignation speech

Michael Jackson (D) during his scandle

Leatherface (D) as he's running around with a chainsaw

I guess you had to see it. But it was funny.

Saw that. Probably an accident. Fox would never stoop that low. Just like Hannity would never consider a 22 year old woman a young teen.

Exactly! Everybody knows Leatherface is an Independent.

Oh my ....

PS - this is wickedly funny. Perhaps one of the best I've ever seen on BGP.
