A nice win for Beechwood JV to go to 2-0 on the year. Here are the scoring plays:

Q1

0:00 ... BW Mitchell Corts interception return for about 60 yards then as he was getting tackled pitched it to Mason Williams who took the ball the final 15 yards for the score; XP no good ... Beechwood 6 Highlands 0

No scoring in Q2. Halftime score 6-0

Q3

3:42 ... QB Chris Layton 16 yard TD pass on 4th down and goal to Noah Howard; Layton to Tyler Donoho for 2 points ... BW 14-0

Q4

0:58 ... Highlands Casey Greene 3 yard run; Greene run for 2 points ... Beechwood 14 Highlands 8

Beechwood covered the onside kick, picked up a first down and ran out the clock for the win.

Beechwood Players of the Game:

Mitchell Corts both at RB and LB with an INT.

Noah Howard also at RB and LB with an INT and a fumble recovery.

Short game summary:

Beechwood controlled this game from the start. The Tigers did not punt the ball until late in the game when they were trying to run out the clock. The Tigers had three offensive possessions that were stopped in the red zone, once on downs and two others on interceptions by Highlands.

This is a good example how a game one team controls can turn around if you don't put a team away. Highlands converted a screen pass into a 45 yard play with 1:30 to go, then scored a couple plays later. Following the 2 point conversion, Beechwood had to cover an onside kick to prevent the Bluebirds from having a chance to win. By not converting the red zone opportunities, the Tigers left the opportunity there for a desperate late Highlands come back.

Good win for Beechwood and good comeback effort by Highlands.

What's the Highlands JV record now?

What a good win for the Tigers! The defense shut down Highlands all day till their last drive. Intercepted Hollingsworth a few times and controlled the running game the whole game. Beechwood looked like the more physical team most of game running hard and hitting hard. I was nervous for this game but I was very happy how Beechwood came out ready to play!!!!!

And the collapse continues.

Love Beechwood and most NKY teams.

You do realize HHS is battling a ton of injuries right now right?

Not to mention 4 of the best Sophs are playing varsity football. Nice showing by the Beechies good for them but we all need to remember JV games mean nothing outside of preparing to win your respective Class State Championship.

Exactly. Those guys are good enough to play varsity and several others have been moved up to fill varsity spots for the injured. HHS doesn't play those kids at the JV level. Regardless what grade they are in. So when your young talent moves up to fill a ton of holes on the varsity roster, your younger levels will naturally be a little depleted. JV means nothing week to week other than to give the kids that didn't see varsity time that week a chance to play. Each week you can have a different team on the field.

I agree JV does not mean much, but Still Highlands has like 75 kids on the varsity roster and is a 5a school. Not to mention the score was a lot closer than the game was in reality. beechwood also pulled most of the starters at the start of the Highlands scoring drive.

Roster size doesn't always equal quality players.

Look... I don't care about JV football and honestly don't even care about Beechwood til playoffs. My point is the statement about "the collapse continues" is not even close. There was a lot going on on the HHS sideline today. You can't make a statement like that on a JV game that means absolutely nothing and was played very conservative from the HHS. That's my point. HHS put zero stock in JV games. It's time for the non varsity players (and remember they two platoon on the varsity) to play. That's it.

Beating a drum over taking down a HHS team that has a kid playing RB for the first time all year because the other two JV RB had to play varsity? Add to that the defensive players that have been pulled up due to injury. Congrats on the win, but come on.
