Central location or not, it is simply not fair to have a single facility hosting every single tournament if there is one or more in the region that are capable of hosting the event. If it seats 4200 and standing room of 5000, it's capable, and I don't think it is unreasonable to suggest that it could host the 10th region every other year or every third year.

I don't have a dog in this, but is Mason County a central location for the region? I am not sure if your quote is a valid argument....

Every other year is not a problem, I kinda live in between both sites. So travel isn't a issue. Is there parking better than Mason County, will there have to be fans turned away?. Mason County faced this one year.

If they allow 5000 in then where do the other 1000 go? They probably don't bother because it's a 2 hour drive instead of an hour drive. That's the biggest two problems with Montgomery County's new gym. It's not a Central location and it isn't big enough.

In one of the former posts on this subject someone did the mileage from each school in the district to Mason and it's pretty close to being Central. They proved that it was as central a location as you can get.

According to MapQuest Winchester is 60.5 miles to Mason County and Calvary Christian is 57 miles from Mason County. That is not to the county line but to the Fieldhouse.

That is a little misleading time wise. Calvary Christian comes straight down AA at 60 MPH or higher while I believe the roads from Mt. Sterling to Mason is not nearly the same quality.

 

To Maysville from Alexandria would be an hour trip (driven it before in 30 minutes when I was at a bball camp in Maysville and my son was rushed to the emergency room). Don't believe you can make that drive in an hour to Mt. Sterling.

Takes me 1 1/2 hours to drive from Winchester to the fieldhouse. I would say that Clark has the longest drive time wise because of the more "challenging" roads.

 

Going to Mt Sterling and their new gym would take 20 minutes.

As far as centralized, if you look at the schools that realistically are an hour from Maysville compared to the schools that are an hour from Mt. Sterling, I think you would find that the vast majority would be in Maysville's favor.

 

Moving to Mt. Sterling benefits Montgomery and Clark. That is all. While you put Brossart, Campbell, Scott, Silver Grove, Calvary Christian and to a lesser extent, Bracken, Pendleton, Augusta at a disadvantage.

 

Paris, Bourbon, Harrison, Nicholas, Deming are pretty much a wash in the matter.

Factor in size, experience, tradition, parking, and nearby aaccomodations then Maysville seems like the logical place to have it.

Tradition, you can't really count because going to regionals will be the memory, not the facility.

Parking, from my memory would be a wash but I don't know what the new gym has done to the parking at Montgomery.

Nearby accomodations are a wash or barely in Maysville's favor. Mt. Sterling has some nice restaurants. I was there last week and ate one day at a Chinese buffet and the other day at Applebee's.

 

As far as the host schools and their ability, that is a wash. Fred Hester and Phil Risen both do a great job.
