And that was done when Fleming County and Estill County moved out of the region. It was a great, great point, 2 years ago. At this point, I don't see many changes occurring again at least for awhile.

It is 20 minutes from Falmouth to Cynthiana. It is NOT 1 hour and 10 minutes from Falmouth to Scott. On games in which we went to Scott, I planned 45 minutes on a bus to Scott. So worse case scenario, I would estimate 65 minutes to Cynthiana to Scott or vice versa. Basically take I275 to Double AA. Take US 27 South till you reach Cynthiana.

Lived Falmouth for 34 of my 41 years on this planet. 20 minutes to Cynthiana and 20 minutes to Alexandria. That is on cruise at 60 MPH on US27. How long is it from Scott to Alexandria? About 20 minutes? That is why I say around an hour.

 

If I am listening to Van Halen, I could make it in 45 minutes. :lol:

Boss Dunaway road to Falmouth is 12 minutes at about 65. The fastest I remember making it is 9 minutes. From BD to Provident Bank in Alexandria the fastest I've ever made it is 12 minutes. Leaving the bridge in Falmouth and crossing main street in Alexandria is not 20 minutes.

 

My 2 fastest combined times aren't 20 minutes and both times I was driving fast enough to lose my license.

 

Maybe the High School to the VFW in 20 minutes, but not to the city limits.

 

I once made it to downtown Cincinnati in less than 20 minutes from PC but that didn't make it a 20 minute drive.

With all that being said, if the regional powers-that-be really think that Montgomery County will have the facilities and everything else that goes along with putting on the 10th tourney (parking, hospitality, ticket management, concessions, nearby accomodations, etc. etc. etc.) in 2008; I say let them have their chance. If it turns out to be a gigantic flop like it was in the '70s; maybe it will be another 30+ years before the bad memories are erased.

 

If it runs smoothly, and thousands of fans aren't turned away, and the smaller schools in the region are satisfied with their share of the gate; then Montgomery County should be allowed into a permanent rotation.

 

Long story short - let Montgomery County host the tournament; if it works out, great; if not; well, we all know where it will be next time around.

I feel I have a unique view on this because on the girls side, IT IS ROTATED.

 

Girls don't draw such a big crowd so we don't need the fieldhouse although it does get used for it when it is that districts time to host the tournament.

 

When it was played in the Campbell County Middle School. Estill County had to play in back to back nights. They chose to stay instead of driving the 2 hours back to Estill County after the game and then return drive the next day. Their fans, pep band and the like had to do that. For the girls that is a big problem, because semi-finals are on a Monday and finals on Tuesday. Finals finish on Monday night around 9:00 PM, arrive back home around midnight, up for school (which you HAVE to attend) and then leave after school to make the 2 hour drive once again.

 

For boys, it would be very unfair to ask Montgomery County/GRC to make a 2 hour bus ride to play a championship game at NKU while Brossart/Campbell/Scott would basically being playing a home game. It would also be very unfair to ask that the other way around.

 

You could make the argument that they should spend the night. So now you are putting a bigger financial strain on one school to have to spend the night as well as one school gets to sleep in their bed, eat at home, etc, while the other does not.

 

Mason, again, is around an hour to everyone. That seems to be the central location FOR ALL without putting anyone out.

The Economic Development Council had it measured once and it is 31 miles from PC to the Ohio River between Newport and Cincinnati.

 

Don't know where that fits into the argument, but thought it was interesting.

Thats funny, I thought Estill Co was never in the 10th region.I guess it just seemed that way given the drive to get to the regioanl tourney and the fact no one above Harrison Co would play them

We made the LONG drive to play them a few times. They lost to Brossart in the regional finals and put Katie Schwegmann on the way to knee surgery.

 

I have to say when their pep band did the train whistle at the beginning of games that was real cool.

How far from Mt. Olivet to Maysville?

About the same, from my house I can get there in 20min, once I kicked butt and got to Maysville in 12 minutes.

About 23 miles, but the shortest route is also the crookedest. Say 30 to 35 minutes or so.

If you take US 62 thru Shannon/Murphysville it's a long and crooked road, but there are several roads or shortcuts I can take. One is to take Route 324(Raymond Road) to Mayslick come out on US 68, which is where St.Pat takes when they travel over here. Another is to take Johnson Lane out of Sardis to Brandywine road go to the end go on to Clark's Run Road into Maysville, or travel to Germantown Comedown Route #10 to the AA Highway into Maysville, it's just whatever works better for you.

I would be all for rotating it between Mason, Montgomery and NKU. I would prefer a neutral floor. The 16th is played at MSU..and it is not a central location for that region, but a neutral floor. They have Summitt Middle which could host the region, but is Boyd Co home court.

Have you seen the gym at Summitt Middle? No dead horse just my opinion, on a topic that many of us will never agree on.
