Bellevue 26 Bishop Brossart 17

Featured Replies

Stangs hurt themselves with 2 big missed opportunities inside the 10 with 1st and goal, and come away with 0 points.

Nathan Bezold for Brossart could play for any team in NKY on either side of the ball. Powerful runner that needs to be gang tackled to be brought down, and can deliver a hit on the defensive side.

Seth Evers for Bellevue could be one of the fastest kids in the state (State Champ in 100M & 200M dash), he did a nice job off getting to the outside on a couple of short passes and then just blew by defenders for long touchdowns.

Great night for football and nice seeing quite a few fellow BGP'ers tonight. :thumb:

Bellevue off to a solid start on the season. Now 2-1 with the only loss in OT to a solid Nicholas County team.

......failed to mention, no better place to watch a game then Gilligan Stadium.

The Mustangs were first and goal numerous times tonight but the Tigers did a good job defensively of keeping them out of the end zone. Until the Mustangs get a handle on the penalties they are going to struggle scoring and keeping momentum. Bellevue is definitely a big play offense while the Mustangs are more methodical. I'm surprised the Mustangs didn't run the ball more. They had more success running at Bellevue rather than running off the edge. Macdonald had many opportunities running the ball tonight, I just wish he would give a hit sometimes instead of taking one. Can't say enough about Nathan Bezold.

A game of two halves for the Mustangs.

The first half we moved the ball effectively and Tyler MacDonald was brilliant, connecting on 13 of 17 pass attempts for 194 yards, a touchdown, and was intercepted for only the first time this season.

It was an ask-and-answer half where the Mustangs settled for a Bryan Duffy 29 yard field-goal with 7:30 in the first. Bellevue then scored on what would be their first of three breakaway runs for touchdowns as Seth Evers went 52 yards on a completed Eric Atkins pass on the flat, giving the home team a 6-3 advantage. Brossart answered when Nathan Bezold seemingly carried the entire Bellevue defensive unit into the endzone on a 6 yard carry. Duffy's PAT was good the the Mustangs led 10-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Adkins connected with Tyler Thompson three consecutive times with the third effort resulting in a 66 yard run to paydirt with Adkins scoring on the two point conversion to re-take the lead at 14-10. With 1:59 to play in the half Brossart answered on a 25 yard touchdown pass from T-Mac to Jack Howard. Duffy again tacked on the PAT and we went to locker room on top 17-14.

The third quarter proved frustrating for the Mustangs. We had Bellevue 3rd and 25 on their first series only to allow a first down and eventual 77 yard touchdown run by Evers to re-take the lead at 20-17. Twice in the 3rd quarter the Mustangs were 1st and goal, only to come up empty. Untimely penalties again contributed to our demise.

The fourth quarter was owned by the Bellevue ground game, who after making it a two possession lead at 26-17 on an 8 yard run by Will Ryan to complete an 80 yard drive, the Mustangs twice went three and out, giving the Tigers the ball at their own 21 yard line and 7:04 to play in the game. The Mustangs offense did not touch the ball until the 48 second mark of the fourth quarter and were sent back to Alexandria , tagged with their first loss of the season to prepare for Newport next Friday in Claryville.

Congratulations to Coach Woody McMillan and his team who out-played us in the second half and deserved to win.

Congrats to coAch Woody and his Tigers. He said at the golf outing this past summer that the Tigers had some big time playmakers and it showed. Evers is a kid who should be getting the majority of the touches. He broke off some big time plays and has blow by speed. Atkins definitely showed maturity and leadership at the QB spot and shout out to Jr DB Charlie Schreiber for 2 Interceptions on defense.

I followed the update thread and the Bezold kid was in on about every play and sounds like a real mule running the ball. He was punishing defenders and carrying numerous Tigers about every play it seemed. It appeared many drives were stalled by either turnovers or penalties so once Coach Wiggins gets those cleaned up the Stangs will be fine. I'm really impressed by the Brossart football program and how far they have come in a short period. Good luck to the Mustangs the rest of the season.

Nice win Bellevue, congratulations.
