Middlesboro 62 Corbin 42

Featured Replies

I'm not sure for which team this game was the bigger indictment. The #5 team giving up 42 or the #10 team giving up 62. I'm sure there will be several coaches down the road wanting a game film of this one.

LOL....and several teams wanting to schedule........LOL

Who made this schedule for the Colonels? Something tells me it was not Coach Black( Back) ..spelling check...

Things will pick up in the upcoming years. New scheme, new coach, and all that.

Face it things have been going down for area football for years. Whitley hit their peak in the mid ninties.....now it is much tougher.

Considering the coaching fiasco they had it was probably not Black, and I do agree that things have been going down hill not just for the colonels but for most area teams, the level of play is not what it was, although some are winning, the average level of play is down.

Why didn't Corbin try to establish the running game? I was listening on the radio while driving and they had a 2 td lead and it was still pass, pass, pass. No attempt to run. Maybe there was a reason, just asking for an explanation? My guess is Middlesboro was playing bump and run man coverage and blitzing everyone else?

My guess is that in hindsight Corbin wishes they would have tried to run it more(Approximately 25% of Corbin's rushes came when they had it inside the 10 yard line). They were having so much success through the air that it was probably easy to forsake the run though. The problem with this is the game became a marathon(the game lasted almost 3 1/2 hrs.) and the players running all of the long pass routes were also having to make most of the defensive plays and they seemed to run out of gas toward the end of the game. Running the ball would have eaten up some valuable clock anyway.

Does anyone know why Campbell did not play any fullback in this game? He is such a good run blocker and is also a good runner that I was surprised that he did not play any offense.

All I know is that if either Corbin or M-boro have any aspirations of a state title then there better be a ton of defensive improvement because a track meet will not work against your top tier teams.

My guess is a little too slow for the offesive side of the ball against that kind of speed to keep up with his blocks, you are right, he has been a great run blocker thus far this season. He did play a little middle line backer, but then they ran a couple of routes that pulled him into coverage and that didn't work.

Why did Josh Martin, Michael Campbell & Kevin French not play tonight? Are they hurt?

Good question. Josh was very sick, French has a hurt shoulder, but could still play. Now Michael is a 240lb fullback who can't be stopped if given the opportunity. They use him very little and when they do he had to gaurd their speed. Guess they wanted to be in a shoot-out with one of the best 2-a teams around instead of controlling the clock and running it down their throats. Go figure.

Let me guess, you want the coaches to go out and strap it on and do the job for them? Well guess what the KHSAA says that is illegal. :madman:

They do tackling drills and tackling drills, they show up in practice but not allways in a game. You must be one of those people that if the sun didn't come up if would be the coaches fault. The coaches can't give them courage in the game to step up infront of a full speed runner and take him on instead of tripping him. Go down to the field house and give your memo in person, they will be there about 1:30 or 2:fire:

Just wondering how much are the coaches responsible for. Just the wins.

Where is ' the mathmagician' i figured he would have some thing to say about all this, he seems to know nothing about the rest of Corbin Football.:sssh:

I'm sure glad Corbin had all their ducks in line.:sssh: Sounds like some "meatheads" don't know too awful much about football.:D

I know more than one might think. One thing is for certain. The tackling, or lack thereof, by Corbin was the worst ever witnessed by many Corbin fans. Plus, the kids simply quit when they got down late. Also, the laughing and cutting up by some Corbin coaches when Corbin was down late in the game is unforgiveable and disgusting. Archie Powers would have not tolerated such behavior.

Corbin has some good young talent but the attitudes of both players and coaches are gonna have to change before this thing gets turned around anytime soon. Corbin will again probably win out again the weak competition that remains and maybe win a playoff game or two. About .500 is all we can expect nowadays at Corbin.

I agree (Lance Harbor) with some of your points. I must point out that after watching our defense render 62 points, and tackling like the cheerleaders; I am not able to say that we are well coached. This is not a new problem, Corbin has been fundamentally bad for a couple of years now, and last weeks' performance is strong evidence that the situation has not improved. The responsibility for improvements in this area belongs to the coaches, and truthfully it appears as if no one at the coaches office received that memo.

The offense did a terrific job and the OC called a great game, but the defense was so poor that it put a black eye over any bright spot we could find.

Cheerleaders could have tackled better. Maybe the Hounds would have tackled better if they had been tackling cheerleaders.:D

I agree with you. Corbin has been pretty fundamentally UNsound for quite awhile. And this DOES fall back on the coaches! Is there poor communication between coaches and players? Attitudes must change for both players and coaches.

Offensively, the game was coached well. 42 points should be enough everytime. Defensively, go look at the stat sheet. It won't lie to you.

Give them courage? Do you really believe Corbin players lack courage? Thats what you just said, and I don't agree with that. Our kids aren't scared, Sir.

Why can't you call a spade a spade? I'm sure they do tackling drills, but if you were at Middlesboro you'd know they aren't working! Time to do a different drill!

Wake up True Redhound. Several times I've seen you point a finger at the players (like you are now) while relieving the coaches of any responsibility of the embarassing season we're having (we are 2 and 5). I guess you are one of those people who would blame the players if the sun didn't come up in the morning. Fact is,We've got a great QB. We've got strong linemen, and we've got good enough speed. They're just not well coached!

I agree with your post exactly. Unlike some people and coach wannabes, you know football. Keep up the good posts!

Archie Powers and Cotton Adams both would have been run out of town on a rail if their teams had that many sub par years. But Steve Jewell got them to state and he seems to be untouchable. In fact I hear Kevin Costner is going to play him in the up coming movie......

Certianly Corbin played a better than average schedule, but nothing that Corbin teams in the past played and had much more success. .500 is even disappointing for the fans who don't like Corbin but do respect them.

I don't recall Archie having a subpar year when he left, seems as though he became the County Judge Executive.

Sadly, we're not even .500, we're .400.
