The better team won the football game last night.:sssh: Corbin just isn’t the same type of program that it used to be and I think a lot of Corbin fans still evaluate their teams to that degree. Not that there is anything wrong with high expectations, you should want the best from your team, but I just don’t feel like Corbin has been capable of that type of performance. Do I honestly think Middlesboro will win the class 2a championship, the odds would say no. But I’ve seen on a few posts where Corbin fans have mentioned going to state. I just think there are A LOT of unreal expectations surrounding the redhounds. As an ex Middlesboro football player (graduate of 04) I can offer you all an honest opinion about your team. You guys have an outstanding football coach. There aren’t too many coaches out there that could form a very competitive team like you all have with the lack of athletes. Every time we stepped on the field against Corbin we felt like we had more players with big play capability. We didn’t always win though because Corbin was a SOUND football team. They always did the little things right, they blocked well, they played solid assignment defense, they had great technique, they played the game right and we knew we were in for a battle when we faced Corbin. That’s why I believe you all have a great head coach. Corbin always seemed like the most fundamentally sound team we played, and that’s clearly a reflection of being WELL coached. Back when coach Jewell had players like B.J Folley, Jarrod Lawson, (the other Barton that played LB), Isaac Mills, (that huge RB that played with B.J), B. Hoover, (the huge tackle that went to WKU, you all had very good teams. But last night when I looked at Corbin, I just didn’t see the same caliber team that you all have had in the past. You just don’t seem to have those big name players like you used to. Clint IS a very good high school QB, and you have some WR with sticky hands, but I just don’t see much big play capability, or any stud athletes like the ones you used to have. I think Corbin’s lack of big playmakers is a reflection of your record. Yes I am sure you all are still fundamentally sound, and well coached but at the same time your getting left behind by other high school programs. High school kids are getting bigger, stronger and faster than ever, but I honestly don’t see the athletes at Corbin anymore. There is no doubt in my mind that you all were fundamentally the better team last night, Middlesboro is historically a little sloppy on the fundamentals, but our athleticism prevailed last night. If Corbin wants to return to there previous state of the “big kid on the block” they are going to have to develop better athletically, that’s why I think you all are loosing some of these close games. I am not trying to throw mud or impose that Middlesboro is outstanding; I am just giving an honest opinion as to why I think you all are starting to loose now, more than ever before. Before you respond to this post in anger, really think about it, and some of you may be able to agree with me. I read a lot of your alls posts about what the problem is, and my opinion is simply lack of athleticism.

So lack of athleticism put up nearly 500 yds on you guys last night? I guess a good team will probably put up 80 points on you guys. I guess one thing we have to look forward to is Middlesboro will graduate nearly everyone and Corbin graduates 2 or 3 starters. JV teams played a close game, freshman dominated Middlesboro, middle school dominated Middlesboro, so much so they quit. And, the game means something next year.

 

I thought Cashen had an off night as far as accuracy. Cashen is the better throwing QB hands down. On the long balls Hoskins just seems to throw it up (rainbow) for grabs.

 

Just remember the score with 5 minutes to go. if we were fundamentally sound as far as tackling, Corbin would have won this game by 3 TDS.

Corbin should have 90 percent of this team back next year.. and mboro is mostly gone. therein the same district next year so well see what the future holds for whoever.

I don't see anything to get angry about in your post, it is actually complimentary in my opinion. Corbin obviously does not have a lot of speed , at the RB position in the junior or senior classes. They have some really good hard-nosed RB's, but none that have breakaway type speed.

Middlesboro won't be "mostly gone". They'll graduate 5 two-way starters, but the cupboard won't be bare.

 

Enough about next year, I'm enjoying this one!

We have a couple of backs that are freshmen now that have that break away speed and are very hard nosed. Ryan Fritts and Caleb Watkins will be the next big time backs at corbin. Very,very talented kids in the wings of the program. Coming up from middle school are some very good hard nosed runners. Saxton Shelton and Matthew Taylor as well and speedy and athletic Dillon Eggen and Roman Mitchel 'QB' all 8th Graders. In the seventh coming up are Brady Foley and Josh Smith. As well as a slew of good linemen that are big and for the most part athletic, the future is bright for the Corbin Redhounds. Corbin will be back to its power house status.:ylsuper:

Any chance that Fritts or Watkins will get any varsity carries this year? I agree that both of them will be excellent backs along with the others you mentioned.

 

My guess is that with Martin getting back into the lineup that Corbin will make the adjustments necessary before this year is out and will be a hard out come playoff time.

I agree (Lance Harbor) with some of your points. I must point out that after watching our defense render 62 points, and tackling like the cheerleaders; I am not able to say that we are well coached. This is not a new problem, Corbin has been fundamentally bad for a couple of years now, and last weeks' performance is strong evidence that the situation has not improved. The responsibility for improvements in this area belongs to the coaches, and truthfully it appears as if no one at the coaches office received that memo.

The offense did a terrific job and the OC called a great game, but the defense was so poor that it put a black eye over any bright spot we could find.
