Middlesboro 62 Corbin 42

I agree (Lance Harbor) with some of your points. I must point out that after watching our defense render 62 points, and tackling like the cheerleaders; I am not able to say that we are well coached. This is not a new problem, Corbin has been fundamentally bad for a couple of years now, and last weeks' performance is strong evidence that the situation has not improved. The responsibility for improvements in this area belongs to the coaches, and truthfully it appears as if no one at the coaches office received that memo.

The offense did a terrific job and the OC called a great game, but the defense was so poor that it put a black eye over any bright spot we could find.

Let me guess, you want the coaches to go out and strap it on and do the job for them? Well guess what the KHSAA says that is illegal. :madman:

They do tackling drills and tackling drills, they show up in practice but not allways in a game. You must be one of those people that if the sun didn't come up if would be the coaches fault. The coaches can't give them courage in the game to step up infront of a full speed runner and take him on instead of tripping him. Go down to the field house and give your memo in person, they will be there about 1:30 or 2:fire:

Any chance that Fritts or Watkins will get any varsity carries this year? I agree that both of them will be excellent backs along with the others you mentioned.

My guess is that with Martin getting back into the lineup that Corbin will make the adjustments necessary before this year is out and will be a hard out come playoff time.

Yeah Fritts was ready to go friday in the case that the run was there, but it just wsan't there all night. There is a good posiblity they both will be seeing some varsity this year.

Offensively, the game was coached well. 42 points should be enough everytime. Defensively, go look at the stat sheet. It won't lie to you.

Give them courage? Do you really believe Corbin players lack courage? Thats what you just said, and I don't agree with that. Our kids aren't scared, Sir.

Why can't you call a spade a spade? I'm sure they do tackling drills, but if you were at Middlesboro you'd know they aren't working! Time to do a different drill!

Wake up True Redhound. Several times I've seen you point a finger at the players (like you are now) while relieving the coaches of any responsibility of the embarassing season we're having (we are 2 and 5). I guess you are one of those people who would blame the players if the sun didn't come up in the morning. Fact is,We've got a great QB. We've got strong linemen, and we've got good enough speed. They're just not well coached!

Agreed, I've seen better tackling in youth football than I did Friday night. Several times I noticed some players trying to tackle by sticking a shoulder pad out:confused: Maybe the coaches do teach them better, I've not been to a practice this year so I wouldn't know, but it's not showing in the games.

I'm not an insider, so I'm just guessing, but it looked like Middlesboro put in a special defense for Corbin over their bye week, and didn't learn it real well. There was a lot of obvious confusion on the Jackets D, and way too many wide-open plays for the Hounds.
Yep and it failed miserably IMO we just didn't have enough time to practice it.

Our defense is MUCH better than what we showed Friday night.

They also added a few more passing plays with Casey and C.G. lined up at the same time as a WR and that worked perfect as we kept getting big plays through the air when we needed it.

I was shocked by this score AND the outcome. I thought Corbin would win by 12-18 points.

I have read all the posts and both sides seem to be playing the blame game, putting it all on the defense and praising the offense. From the stats posted, it appears that Corbin is one deminsional on offense (10 yards rushing) It appears that Middlesboro is nearly as bad rushing the ball but they do throw it enough to keep opposing offenses honest.

For Corbin to compete in the playoffs, past the third round, remember its intra-district the first two rounds, they will need to develop some type of rushing attack. I am sure with the new playoff format, Corbin should get through the first two, but there will be no weak sisters after that.

I actually agree for once with you Apex.....I say 5- 5 in the regular season for the Hounds and then 2 wins in the post season...so that would be 7- 5 and then the real test starts.....so far the Hounds have failed all quizzes...Mboro, Rock, Bell,Oldham, and South...maybe this time things will be different. How about the Colonels? Do they have a chance to win another game this season or will it be one win for them?

Yes we do have all except for the speed. We are also very well coached!!! Speed kills alot of times. We for the most part are young and things will get much better.

I'm not pointing the finger at anyone but I'll say we have adequet speed. Overall our team speed sucks but we do have some play makers with good enough speed. Are there people with Adam Mills, Mike Neal, Stephen Cook, Bram Hoover, Eric Blackwood type speed? No but there is enough speed to be 5-2 instead of 2-5. I think it's just a matter of everyone getting on the same page and small little things that can be fixed.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Youth has been the excuse for too long. While a few are new to the game, there's alot of the same faces from last year (when they really were young). These kids haven't developed like they should/could.

I'd like to hear the beef of your assertions. You say we are well coached. Please tell me, what is it about this season (or last) that leads you to believe that we are well coached? Its certainly not showing up in the win/loss column, nor does it show up in how our kids play the game. Well coached teams usually aren't 2 and 5. If there are well coached 2 and 5 teams, i'd like to hear about them.

Ahhhhh, the bliss of agreement.........

When it comes to the Colonels, well I have only seen them play three times this year and (Bell and the two home games). I thought they might be making some progress after the Madison Central game but they seem to have black slid some this past week. I don't know, I would think they they could win one of the two Laurel games although I am not prepared to say which one. Mike Campbell's 4-6 regular season and playoff birth is not looking to bad compared to this year.

Did you mean the "black slid" comment or was that a very ironic mis-type?

If they can beat either Laurel, it's SL, but I think South will win friday. Let Whitley get a season under Black and they will do better.

Corbin's game went about like I thought, close until Middlesboro would take over, but I never dreamed of the scoring feast! WOW! Middlesboro will be a tough takedown for anyone this year.

Who made this schedule for the Colonels? Something tells me it was not Coach Black( Back) ..spelling check...

Things will pick up in the upcoming years. New scheme, new coach, and all that.

Face it things have been going down for area football for years. Whitley hit their peak in the mid ninties.....now it is much tougher.

Why didn't Corbin try to establish the running game? I was listening on the radio while driving and they had a 2 td lead and it was still pass, pass, pass. No attempt to run. Maybe there was a reason, just asking for an explanation? My guess is Middlesboro was playing bump and run man coverage and blitzing everyone else?

Also. Congrats to Middlesboro. Sounds like the Jackets and Breathitt Co. will have a lot to say in the Eastern part of 2a playoffs this season!
