Mercer 27 Newport 6

Featured Replies

Namecips, would you say that NCC is only 20 points better than Newport?

Having seen them both play, I think NCC and Newport are closer than 20 points. NCC was better, but not by much. The spread of the NCC and Newport game was only 7 points mid-way through the 4th.

I think this score says more about Mercer than it does about Newport.

Most of the off season and this season I have thought Newport was being given too much credit for last season. They lost a ton of talent from linemen to skill players that you just can't possibly replace. After the NCC game I thought maybe Newport was better than I was giving them credit for. The truth is that I was probably giving NCC too much credit.

Newport could have capitalized when Mercer fumbled on the kickoff to start the second half with Mercer only leading 14-0. But as stated Newport couldn't move the ball.

This series ended without a score because the man in the black and white stripes would not throw a flag, plain and simple. The receiver was mauled in the end zone. I'm not saying Newport would've come back and won, but I think it may have given them a little more determination and drive. But the refs blew that call.

What was the attendance? Did Mercer bring a big crowd?

The timing by the defense was there. I remember the play very well. The zebra's were definitely not good throughout the game though.

Great win Mercer. I still feel that Mercer needs to be able to air the ball out some but their defense stands tall. This time of year and especially in district play, a win is a win.

Im not trying to start anything ...But where where the refs from?................................thay where bad

Refs are a Northern Ky bunch, I have been to Newport 4 times, and the bunch last night is about what you get when you go to Northern Ky. Several of us "old timers", were waiting on the crucial call that turned the game around. It makes you grateful for the Central Ky refs.

Mercer has a few things to work on , but Newport's D was really tough, not giving up the big play, until very late in the game.

Will #81, get to play in next game? He sure has to work on his "sportsmanship", it could cost Mercer later, it did allow Newport to keep a drive going for their only score. Coach Smith was really working on him, didn't look like it was doing much good.

Lewis and Buster really had a good game.

Well what happened to Mercer this isnt the type of score you usually get when this new high powered Mercer team plays. Although good win for them and they are still everyones favorite to win State.

Ummm, No. not everyone's

Congratulations Titans... Looks like you should get that undefeated season, hopefully it carries through the playoffs as well.

A little closer than i expected but still a quality win for Mercer. I have a feeling we will be seeing them at the pizza box.

I think #81 was upset about the hold right in front of the ref ....he has to learn to keep hes cool tho..

Congrats to the mighty, mighty TITANS! Mercer is TALKING THE TALK & WALKING THE WALK!

Yall be 5a next year:devil:

Someone who watched this game give us the scoop ... Did Mercer dominate , both lines of scrimmage and tackle well ?

If Mercer didn't totally dominate physically ... Belfry - Red Army and or the Red Devils are preparing a lunch and plan to take the Scotties late into the fourth quarter ... someone give me the scoop ...

Sorry Red Devil - no chance of anyone taking the Scotties in the 4th - they don't exist anymore - Remember the Titans?
