Boyle County 41 John Hardin 6

Featured Replies

Article below talks about just how dominating Boyle County was in first half and how frustrating it was for John Hardin.

I guess I hadn't realized season openers have NOT been going well for John Hardin, but people keep picking them anyway ...

PREP FOOTBALL: Rebels take advantage of Bulldogs’ mistakes (8/2) | John Hardin | thenewsenterprise.com

* Boyle County racked up 363 yards of offense, including 252 on the ground. Crawford rushed for 179 yards on 18 carries, while Bartleson added 85 yards on nine attempts.

* Boyle County’s defense produced as many touchdowns in the first half as its offense. Besides Bartleson’s pick 6, sophomore Reece Smith intercepted a pass and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown to stretch the lead to 27-0.

* Dropping the season opener is nothing new for the Bulldogs. This loss marked the fourth consecutive year they’ve begun the season with a loss, including three by 26 points or more. They lost to Bowling Green, 48-22 last season and South Warren beat John Hardin, 43-12 two years ago.

Problem is, it's hard to decide which 3-A team had the better weekend?

- Central defensively dismantling 6-A top-10 Manual?

- LexCath waxing Waggener's stars?

- Boyle County demoralizing 5-A top-10 John Hardin with defensive returns?

- Elizabethtown rolling at reigning 4-A state runner-up Franklin-Simpson?

Problem for Boyle is it would have to go through two of those teams, not to mention Corbin or Belfry at the semis level (and then have have to knock off an E'town team, which appears for now better than originally thought, it in the final).

Yeah I'm not sure how much we've learned this week, at least in 3A. Deeper than expected? About what we expected?

Makes me even more excited for next week. And the week after. And every week.

The top six in 3-A, for those who played, all came off looking great.

Plus Paducah Tilghman and Caldwell did nothing to embarass themselves and Bardstown will get better (Bardstown is incredibly young and I don't think voters realized that).

3-A certainly has quality depth at the top.

Catholic didn't play Waggener, they played Madison Central. LCA is the team that handled Waggener.

Unless something has changed from last year, Boyle won't play Belfry or Corbin until the state championship. Etown would be the semi final matchup.

Lexington Christian beat Waggener not Catholic.

Got the Lexington schools confused. Apologize for that.

But the playoff rotation HAS changed since last year, I misexplained it, but IIRC, the final would be:

Etown/Boyle/LexCath vs. Central/Belfry/Corbin

E'town still has to go through Boyle or LexCath, with Central shifting to face Corbin or Belfry in the East.

So Central has for sure been moved to the east?

For this year yes! Next year I believe I seen that us and Catholic will be in the same region as Belfry. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for clarifying. Not a fan of this cross bracketing stuff.

Congrats to the Rebels on the getting that first win. I felt like Boyle would be the better team and they were clicking on all cylinders in this one.

John Hardin has some great athletes....but not nearly enough. Witherspoon is not a QB but a great athlete. He never comes off the field and surely cannot survive the season if this holds true.

Boyle was able to do what they haven't been able to in recent years....Oline and Dline players going 1 way only. This alone was a major difference in the game. You simply cannot overlook the advantage of players getting a blow between series.

If you wanna win all of them, you gotta win the first one.

I went down and watched Boyle. This is what I came away from a old coaches perspective John Hardin had speed and athletes. Boyle had some FOOTBALL players with some speed and size. Boyles Oline played well, Boyle has some big kids up front along with Bramel and on defense the dline was dominant. The noseguard Kelly is very disruptive on defense, somebody in the booth said he had 13 tackles Smith and Bartelson in the secondary are really good. Smith was the mvp. I also liked the effort from the Crawford Kid at Rb, 179 yards on the ground is my mvp. He ran the ball hard. A long ways to go but very disciplined young team that l believe Boyle has to be excited about.

There is alot of new going on at JH. New offense, new coach, new QB etc. They ran into a buzz saw in Boyle on Saturday. Boyle on that day would have made alot of teams look bad. The point being is that JH won't face that type of competition in district play. Hopefully by midseason we'll be able to get an identity and figure out who we are offensively and defensively. Long season ahead....don't get too high (Boyle) and don't get too low (JH).
