Guru and all his BGPers......

I wanted to take this time to inform you of some exciting news about changes that will affect what (or who) you read in The Courier-Journal sports section. After another week or so, I will no longer be the high school beat reporter at The C-J.

I am very excited about my new role at the paper as the recruiting reporter, with my main focus on the top football and (men's and women's) basketball players in Kentucky and Southern Indiana and the recruits in those sports by U of L and UK and the Division I state schools. It's a niche that not a lot of newspapers have tried to get into but in this area we felt like it was long overdue.

I will still be highly involved in the high school sports scene across the state, only in a different role. I will be keeping up with the best players and potential Division I prospects instead of following game-by-game as close as I have in the past. I thoroughly enjoyed my six years as the main beat writer at the paper and feel like our coverage - especially in football - has come a long way.

Along with the recruiting, I will also be helping out as a back-up to our U of L and UK beat writers, keep my summer golf beat and still help out with some of the high school coverage. There's no way they could keep me away from state football championship weekend - even if there are three games in one day (sigh!) this year!

I'm also happy to say that you will enjoy my replacement. Jason Frakes is originally from Bowling Green and is a WKU graduate. He's covered preps in Bowling Green and Panama City, Fla., and has been working on our desk for five years. He's a great guy and shares the same passion I have for high school sports in the state of Kentucky.

Please don't forget me. In fact, if you know of a potential Division I player you know my email ([email protected]).

Thanks to everyone on BGP for all the support over the years!

I think the CJ is going to hit a home run with this new niche. Its obviously huge in KY. This board is one example of many showing the extraordinary level of interest in recruiting of our own athletes plus those being pursued by UK/UL.

I agree. I've been waiting for a guy like Demiling to cover this area and not charge me $125 dollars a year for membership, like rivals or scout.

Good move by the C-J.

Congrats to Jody!!! He supplied alot of kind words and good "ink" on my son during his HS career and I am very appreciative. I have looked forward to his Friday edition predictions for the past few years and always enjoy the positive tone he has shown toward the kids in his overview supporting his picks. This years expanded HS coverage in the CJ and on the website has been second to none and I'm sure Jody deserves the majority of the credit. He is truly a class act.

Sidenote: When my son's HS career ended last season, I sent Jody a thank-you email since his work provided so much joy for my older relatives. Coming from a huge catholic family like many others in this area, I would say one of the most enjoyable and humorous things is listening to so many relatives claiming bragging rights about their HS grandson, nephew or cousin's success. :D Thanks again to Jody!!!

Well deserved promotion.... best of luck JD! He has made my son's high school days very special (just as he has for years with many others).

Welcome Jason!!!

I told Jody on 790 radio that he almost had the Male/Ballard pick exactly right. Male scored a TD late. He said "I was hoping Coach Red would take a knee ". First thing we do on Fridays is go right to Jody's picks, he has been right on and I'd hate to try and follow him, so Good Luck Jason. Glad Jody is sticking around and looking forward in his upcoming articles. Also he needs to be on the radio more.

Wow, my high school sports world is turning upside down! Best of luck to you, Jody!

I feel bad for Jason, yet I don't like this new guy already, since he's not Jody Demling. That's kind of why I feel bad for him. Just kidding. I look forward to checking out his work.

I think this will be a great addition to the Courier-Journal. :thumb:

So, anybody from BG able to tell us about this new guy?

I saw that, and I'm glad Jody has nice things to say about him... I was just wondering what some of his former readers down I-65 might have thought of him.

I just want to say thanks to Jody and let him know that he will be missed.

I've read his stuff on several occasions — he's very solid.
