July 28, 20179 yr How about them? Just crossed paths with one this morning and did well. It is surreal at time channeling your inner "American Picker" amongst a now deceased persons belongings. What has been your best find? Your most valuable find? Haven't been to an estate sale in years, however, I can see how folks enjoy them and can turn a profit on their finds!
July 28, 20179 yr This seems like a good thread for @mcpapa to comment in. He's probably not back from his Friday morning yard sales rounds yet.
July 28, 20179 yr Author If he was in Independence this morning mcpapa and i may have rubbed elbows. Even with the rain folks came out in mass!
July 28, 20179 yr They are great, used to frequent them alot when I owned my business. Bought many tractors and equipment and resold them. Got lots of old old old hand tools as well.

July 28, 20179 yr About 20 years ago I bought an unused 1948 Indy 500 ticket at an Estate Sale in Ft. Thomas. Called the wife to research the going price on Ebay for such an item, all she could find was used tickets from said event going for $50-$100. However, their were unused tickets from the 1950's going for a couple hundred bucks. I was able to get the 1948 ticket for $50 and ended up selling it on Ebay for $425.......cha-ching.
July 28, 20179 yr My primary focus is always on gold and jewelry. I never attend professionally managed sales, tough to find great bargains there. You would be amazed how much gold can be found at yard sales and individually managed estate sales. My single best find was an 8 dollar gold chain that I sold an hour later, for $550.

July 29, 20179 yr Never had much luck with estate sales, primarily because they are so few and far between in my neck of the woods. There are two times to get to an estate sale. In the first cohort through the door, or in the last when everything is being liquidated for cheap.
July 29, 20179 yr When I was younger, every Friday my sister and I used to plan a round of yard sales and estate sales. We got some good buys, and had so much fun! Now I have enough stuff, so I miss it, but do keep my eyes open for sales for my kids. I have also shopped EBTH, and I really like that.
July 30, 20179 yr At one of the above mentioned yard sales, my sister and I attended, I purchased 8 "fancy looking" dessert cups for about $5.00. I have no idea to this day if they are valuable, but they were very pretty crystal looking glass dessert cups. I used them to serve my family pudding when it was a special night. It always looked so impressive. To this day, I look at those cups and smile.

So our "score" on Friday was an old phonograph including a couple dozen Nipper RCA records to play. It's a bit of history and Mrs. C1 loves it and that makes me happy. We could turn around and sell it for a very nice profit. Instead we'll enjoy hunting ebay for ol timey phonograph records we like after doing research. A needle lasts for about 3-5 songs. Not sure about the life of the current crank motor. But it is very cool to simply enjoy a few songs without electricity. Never a bad thing to re-connect with how life was enjoyed many years ago!
July 30, 20179 yr Last estate sale I attended I bought stuff for the house. Completely out of character for me, since I'm usually looking to flip stuff for a profit. Bought a new couch and recliner for $75 and a 15-drawer oak card catalog for $20 that we're using as a low coffee table. That was a couple of months ago.
