How do your friends talk about marriage?

Featured Replies

Have had some friends talk about/comment on their (currently married) lives recently, just in general conversation. I've never been married, and to hear them talk it makes me think that's probably a good thing. And it seems to be the rule rather than the exception.

So, how do your buddies talk about their marriage? Positive light? Negative light? Dreadfully? Wonderfully?

Most have been married a long time. We joke about it, but it's all good!

I'm reminded of the famous Lucy episode where Lucy and Ethel were on the candy assembly line.

The secondary story was Ricky and Fred trying to cook rice.

Ricky: Do you know anything about rice?

Fred: I know I had it thrown at me on the worst day of my life.

Been married a long time. None of my married friends who are married have said anything bad about being married.

Few of my divorced friends have some bad things about their exes, but no against the institution of marriage itself.

Best thing I ever did.

Let me help you out......she's ALWAYS right and what's yours is hers and what's hers is hers.

That should do it. LOL

I'm shocked this thread hasn't had more activity. Been married for 30 years, we hang out with mostly married couples so we all tend to have the common goal. Went on vacation with a couple that was getting ready to go through a divorce and we had no idea it was coming until that week. It was brutal and awkward. Hate when divorced couples want you to choose sides. Why can't we all get along?

That happened to us once too. It WAS awkward!

It always seems like it one extreme or the other.

I know people who complain everyday about their spouse, and I know people who have only good things to say.

We used to do a lot of monthly contests at my work for safety and other things, and the prizes were typically pretty good.

One time it was dinner and a movie.

$50 gift card for Logan's, 2 AMC movie tickets, and a dozen roses.

One guy said, "Why would I want to win that. Then she'll expect it all the time."

Of course my thought was, why are you or why did you get married.

I am curious, what did your friends say? Was it against a particular spouse or marriage in general?

Go hang out with my ex for a night and you won't wonder why people choose sides. :lol2:

Just an overall disdain...instead of being a mostly joyful experience (I know it's going to be times in every marriage that's rough) they talk about it a though it's more of a burden and joyless. Now maybe they are playing to the crowd a little bit, I don't know, but it doesn't feel like it.

I'd say its not discussed really at all with any of my friends.

We talk about sports, fantasy football, beers, politics. We don't really discuss our marriages or ask about them.
