Simon Kenton's Ally Niece Injures Knee

Featured Replies

Completely disagree. Knees get torn up just as much in softball and volleyball. Playing three sports is not how you get better in the one sport you like/are great at. I'm so tired of the "when I grew up..." observations. Times are different now and athletes have way more opportunities to specialize if they so choose. It's better to be great in one sport than good in three if you want to play in college.

Perhaps, but I buy into the argument that says cross training the body by playing different sports reduces over use related injuries and, keeps kids motivated by employing different movements in each sport.

Ally's rehab is going well. She is starting to put weight in the injured knee and is taking advantage of summer pool availability by doing aquatic PT.

Awesome news to hear about her rehab and hopefully that knee is ready by late January.

Another great therapeutic option for parents is to "Please give their kid a rest"

The kid is always gonna want to play especially in their younger years. Be a responsible parent and make them take two to three weeks off from their sport.

Question...I'm sure Ally wants to, but as a parent or coach would you want her to play any more H.S. ball or have her do nothing but rehab and be 100% ready for the start of College ball?

If it were up to me, she would be wearing the coaches shirt this year.

I'm sure she has been talking to NKU's coaches, her doctor, her parents to make the best decision for her.

My thoughts exactly. Nothing left to prove at this level.

I agree with and liked all the comments above about not playing...but it's tough to tell a kid you can't play your senior year. I know the scholarship is huge, but you never get your senior year or high school career back. That's hard for a kid to take. Regardless what she's already done on the floor, this was the finale and not being able to end it the way she wanted to or expected to really sucks.

I'm not saying play her, but it wouldn't surprise me to see her out there. Its a tough call either way and I have no idea what I'd do.

She probably does not get back on the court until January. Figure 4 weeks of practice before playing games and you are in February, when the intensity level is the highest of the season. I don't like those circumstances for coming back. I don't care if it means SK goes out in region.

I'm with ya. Just feel bad the poor kid is even fronted with the decision.

This girls leg must be the next coming of sliced bread or something.

D1 athlete. I'd say they are pretty important and wish nothing but a speedy recovery for the lady!

Try telling best girls basketball player in the state she can't play this yeae and she won't play this season. I guarantee she tries her hardest to get back and let nothing stop her she from geting back on the court.

Niece was back on the court tonight not sure how many points she had. Glad she is back.
