Most Charismatic Performer- Could Hold a Crowd Almost Spellbound ???

Featured Replies

I've thought a lot about this and have watched a lot of performers who had a lot of charisma, showmanship, and could seemingly hold a crowd under his/her spell, almost get them to do anything he/she wanted. I narrowed it down to three, then two , and then ..... the ONE AND ONLY!!!! The late, great FREDDIE MERCURY ! Just watch for five minutes and see if you agree !!!

Exhibit A:

Nature Boy was charismatic but I was thinking primarily about singers/rockers.

To me, Mercury was the guy could capture the audience and keep them in the palm of his hand, so to speak.

I;m gonna go the classical music route.

Andrea Bocelli.

Freddie stole the show at Live Aid, for crying out loud! Thursday is the 32nd anniversary.

With all due respect to everyone else there are 3 artist that come to mind that ALWAYS stole the show and kept the audience Spellbound!

In no particular order...

Freddy Mercury...just an incredible performer with the perfect band behind him.

Elvis Presley, they don't call him the King for nothing...then his son-in-law,

Michael Jackson Say what you want about him personally, dude was best performer I've ever seen.

Everyone else, IMO, is battling for a DISTANT Fourth Place!

Can't argue with any of these in the pop/rock music field. I'd add The Boss.

To expand on Springsteen, he's not the best singer. He's not the best guitarist. But he is an absolute entertainer.

Watch the video of 10th Avenue Freeze-out from the Live in NYC DVD. I can't find it on YouTube, but if you haven't seen it you have to watch it. It's what ultimately won me over.

I realize that this might be a hard sell to a tough crowd, but what the hell...Keep in mind that there was a time that you had never heard of some of your favorites before they became like second nature to you.

I Can only hope that one day a proper complete concert video of the band "Diane Coffee" will surface that wasn't recorded on a phone, and has dynamic sound.

Shaun Fleming(30), the charismatic flamboyant vocalist for Diane Coffee, a Bloomington, IN based band, began his career as a child voice actor for Disney, eventually becoming the drummer for the band Foxygen before giving birth to his alter-ego Diane Coffee in 2013.

Both Diane Coffee albums are decent, but IMO not produced as well as they could've been, his in-studio performances very good, yet it's when he's in front of a live audience that he really comes to life pouring out every bit of his heart and soul as the lead vocalist and guitarist of his tasteful glammy Bowiesque, Motownish, Meatloaf meets Rocky Horror in your face explosive 70's influenced rock n' roll blend.

Sure, he's not yet a household name, and it wouldn't surprise me if he never becomes anywhere near as famous as he should, yet when seeing him live not a soul in the house can possibly take their eyes off of him as he works the stage from the very second that he steps foot onto it until the very last note.

This video doesn't show him playing guitar, but he's a pretty decent guitarist as well, and 75% of a live show he can be found with one strapped on him.

What you also will not get from the video is how explosive the sound of the band is live when it's right in your face.

He begins this fantastic tune "Green" from his first album with a little bit of drama with the audience...hang in there with it, and I promise you'll see what I'm trying to convey about his charisma.

Consider when viewing that...

A: The sound is not the greatest

B: You're unfamiliar with the song so it might not immediately grab you like a tune that you are familiar with.

This Diane Coffee live video from the same show is missing the first few seconds of the tune, but nonetheless it does a fairly good job focusing on Shuan Fleming's dramatics.
