For some strange reason, I thought of this performer when I saw the thread title.

 

Glen Hansard of the Irish band The Frames could sorta be considered the Bruce Springsteen of Ireland. He has a dynamic stage presence going from powerful energized dramatic tunes to heart melting ballads, but always very emotional no matter which.

 

With all due respect to everyone else there are 3 artist that come to mind that ALWAYS stole the show and kept the audience Spellbound!

In no particular order...

Freddy Mercury...just an incredible performer with the perfect band behind him.

Elvis Presley, they don't call him the King for nothing...then his son-in-law,

Michael Jackson Say what you want about him personally, dude was best performer I've ever seen.

 

Everyone else, IMO, is battling for a DISTANT Fourth Place!

 

 

Those were my three, in that order:

 

1. Mercury

2. King

3. King(of Pop)

 

I wasn't the biggest Jackson fan, but the guy had that special makeup of atoms that come together just once every almost never.

55 year old Bobby Gillespie makes for a dynamic, somewhat Jagger-like front man for Scottish rock band Primal Scream who's been doing their groovy thing now since 1987, and still going strong.

 

I'll never forgive myself for missing them as the 1st of two warmup acts for headliners Depeche Mode simply because I had never heard of them before. I now dig them way more than I do DM and have at least 7 of their 11 releases.

 

Though I don't buy music too much anymore, they're a band I wouldn't feel guilty about being a completist about.

 

They're on my bucket list to see live, but they haven't been back to town since that one 1994 show, so as far as I know they've never done a proper headlining show in Cincinnati before.

 

Sometimes I wish that I lived in England where probably 80% of my favorite bands are from.

B-Ball Fan, you've forgotten more music and musicians than I know. What do you think of Mercury? He was my clear number one, even ahead of Presley. He always captivated me with his immense talent, exquisite vocals, magnetic personality, and intangibles that are hard to put into words---you just had to experience it.

Ronan Harris, now 50, tirelessly works the stage as the larger than life front man for English/Irish electronic band VNV Nation, now based in Germany who have released 10 albums since 1995.

 

Here is his gorgeous song Nova (Shine Your Light On Me), and while the sound is very high quality, it appears that the video was recorded more to get the laser show and sound because the camera never goes in for a close-up of Ronan.

 

Ronan Harris was also invited to perform the song Nova in a more classical setting with a German classical orchestra.

Completely agree about Freddie Mercury. He was all that. I'm completely disappointed that I never saw him live. He was a one of kind talent with artistry oozing from him from his songwriting to his incredibly dynamic performances. They'll never be another Freddie Mercury, and it's sad that we lost him far too soon.
