Class 2A Rankings (Fan Poll)

Yeah it is classic. But you know what? I think it's funny too. Won't be many laughs when the playoffs get here. If nothing else We can play spoiler. Make fun of the Titans all you want. They will feed off of this all year long. They will have the last laugh. Be happy that AA is getting some attention this year. It's been considered the weakest class since Danville,Boyle, and Lexington Catholic left. Now all that was representing was the mountain teams, who are good but are not of the caliber of the three I mentioned. Thank goodness that this merger happened and central ky can revive AA once again so they will get some coverage on friday night lights.

I didn't even write it, you're just looking to take your jabs at me. Plus. nobody's is making fun of Mercer, certainly not me. I've got tons of respect for Mercer, unlike you do for everyone else including Russell.... Whom should have earned your respect last year. Ley me fill you in on something.... Most people still consider 2A the weakest class, even with your Mercer Titans. I don't think so, I think 1A would be with 2A then 3A then 4A. Which is the way it's supposed to be. But I don't think anyone is making fun of your Titans, let just don't see how it's possible for them to play in 2A and they would like for you to call it for what it is and stop trying to justify it. I wish Merger County nothing but good luck until........Well you know.

You talk as if Mercer saved 2A this year. Thank God for the merger!!!!   Come on, all the teams from Russell, Belfry, Sheldon Clark to Mercer, Western, Trigg to Owensboro Cath on the other side of the state make 2A what it is and not just Mercer. I hate to burst your ego bubble but not everybody in the state is talking about Mercer.

1-Mercer Co.

2-Western

3-Belfry

4-Russell

5-Larue Co.

6-Middlesboro

7-Breathitt Co.

8-OC

9-Fort Campbell

10-Sheldon Clark

That looks about right except I would for sure change Belfry and Russell. I have seen both teams play this year and Russell is better than Belfry.

I never thought about it but i agree.

There can't be much difference between these two team, because if you compare them against Ashland, they seem pretty equal to me they both took the tomcats to OT! And both had a serious chance at beating them. It is never wise to compare teams just because they have played the same opponent, but since you compared them that way, tell me what makes one better then the other, when the outcome of each game was about similiar.

Russell and Belfry were competitive with Danville in the 80s when all three were AAA powers. Russell lost Boyle Co in 1999 and stayed closer to that Rebel team than almost any body else. Russell also lost to Lexington Catholic 21-20 in OT in 2000 in the playoffs. Yeah, I can see how those Central KY teams were just head and shoulders above the rest of the current AA alignment.

Belfry has a nasty habit of fumbling the ball, especially during crucial times in the game, while Russell takes care of the ball very well. Also Russell has another thing that Belfry doesn't: Kasey Clark.

I don't have an ego. It seems to me that no matter what the Titans accomplish this year they well get blasted for it by some. The merger thing is a sore subject. But you knew as well as I that when threads like this on AA start that the meger will come up numurous times. Usually by the same people. I shouldn't have quoted you cause it wasn't really a jab I just picked one to quote. So what should I say? It gets worse after every time they win. It would probably be best if they lose this week.

I understand your points, but you must realize even though Russell has Kasey Clark, they still did no better against Ashland than Belfry did, Belfry is just as solid of a ballclub as Russell, if you want proof of that then ask a Russell fan they will tell you, that this is true. As I have said Russell may have Clark, but if he is so much of a difference why was the score virtually the same.. answer me that one?

To be honest, I dont know why. Maybe Ashland's D played tougher against Russell, or maybe they didnt? I still think that Russell is a more complete team than Belfry, and in turn they are better in my opinion.

After the beating they took last year in the playoffs maybe Mercer could use some help

If Russell played Belfry 10 times I think it would come out 5 wins for each team. Clark is only as good as his blockers are. Yes he is big, strong and fast and will smack you in the mouth with that straight arm if he can. But he is only one football player in a team stort. Clark was unable to run the ball effectively against Ashland because our blocking stunk the stadium up. The line is young and are getting better each week. By playoff time he will get the blocks he needs and then we will all see performances like we saw in Louisville. The linemen have thier work cut out for them and I truely believe that they are getting better and better.

Mercer is still number one although. They earned it.

1. Mercer

2. Russell

3. Belfry

4. Western

5. Middlesboro

6. Fort Campbell

7. Trigg County

8. Sheldon Clark

9. Breathitt County

10. Larue County

Russell also lost 34-6 to Boyle County in 1999. Give the Red Devils credit for playing LexCath tough in 2000, but to be honest, we didn't hear much about Russell being a statewide factor very much in the 1990s.

Bottom line, however ... Boyle and LexCath were the class of 2A in their final two seasons before moving up. Russell was the only team to even make them break a sweat.
