One thing we won't be doing is paying our bill.

 

The Accord is non binding to begin with. The US could have stayed in and not paid the bill and still been fine. But we don't care about optics anymore so it doesn't matter. Seems like it is harder to leave than it is to stay in and play ball. I do think we will still have a seat at the table since technically we can't leave fully until 2020 but again, why play ball and manipulate the world when we can stay home and not play the game at all?

The Accord wasn't designed to put money in your pocket. It was designed to gain a better understanding of how we are destroying our planet and doing all we can to make sure we slow down whatever destruction we are causing without hurting each countries economies in an overly damaging way. Because you know, some people actually do want to leave the planet in good shape for their future generations as opposed to just making as much money as possible at any cost.

 

If it has potential to take money out of my pocket no thanks. The EU can kick rocks.

I want to "fix" the planet and do what we can to counteract climate change, but not at the expense of my wallet. If becoming more environmentally friendly means it costs me more $, I'm going to be against it.

 

The dollar amount bandied around isn't full tax dollars. That figure included, actually heavily reliant on private/corporate investent dollars.

 

The most interesting thing developing a as a result of this withdrawal is the formation of a new (and growing) coalition of US cities, states and corporation that are working on a proposal to present to the UN and be a part of the accord. So, while the United States of America may have withdrawn, there is a real possibility that Americans will commit without the support of the government. This may be the most interesting political development of my lifetime.

If the accord isn't a big deal then why have one at all?

 

It is a big deal. For those who want to stay in it is a big deal because we are no longer allowing ourselves to be the leaders on the forefront of climate change. It's a big deal for those against the Paris Accord because they feel that the US will all of sudden save money and create new jobs or save current jobs. It's a big deal all of the way around IMO.

Apple CEO Tim Cook called the White House directly to let Trump know that leaving the Paris Accord is a tremendous mistake so I guess now Trump is potentially taking money out of my pocket. At the end of the day we have thrown away some valuable leverage on our part in the climate change industry. And that is an industry that will continue to blossom with or without Trump's hand in the cookie jar.

Reports are out that Trump's decision to withdraw could have been petty as Macron's bragging about his white knuckle handshake is said to have irritated President Trump and gave birth to the "it's my job to protect the citizens of Pittsburgh not Paris" quip.

So participating in a treaty that is based on lies, deception and fraud in order to line the pockets of the 'alternate energy' 'investors' (which includes many, many political elements and their backers) at the cost of billions of dollars (that are kids will pay one way or another) is worth it just so we 'get along' with other countries and not get snide, snotty, ignorant remarks from weak 'leaders' of other countries?

Treaty, accord...is there a material difference? Otherwise the rest is correct.

 

IPCC modlels, predictions and scenerios have been proven wrong. CO2 is not a 'pollutant' or a 'poion'.

 

This is all a money for nothing scheme so that those who are shut out of the oil and coal business can get into the 'energy game' or trade 'carbon credits' in a stock market type exchange so that the 'brokers' can make money - no matter what happens.
