Baseball contracts don't make a whole lot of sense to me, but from what I understand by sending him down and keeping him down for a little, they'll have control of him through 2024. If they kept him in the majors the whole time, they'd have control of him through 2023. Simply a business/long term decision.

That and he's on an innings limit, so by sending him down for a couple weeks they should be able to avoid having to shut him down at season's end.
