Open Job: Fleming County

There is talent there right now. Alexander is a top 5 player in the region next year. Glasscock is arguably a top 10 player. Jaden Waller will be a big contributor on both ends. Crump can be very good as well at the 2 spot. Sophomores Flannery, Johnson and Maher will be contributors and could be a starter if they develop over the summer.

The pieces are definitely there for them to make a run in the region next year. Any coach coming in will be in a good position talent wise for at least 2-3 years.

Yeah talent in one of the weakest regions in the state, being top 10 in the 16th Region isn't that much of an accomplishment IMO. The years that Starns was there they made it to state, but never really beat anyone outside the 16th Region.

What is Starnes record since he left? I know he has been fired at least once since then. He came in when we was loaded and left when the talent did.

When Fleming hired Coach Starnes, they knew exactly what they were getting and knew that his family lived away from the area. They hired him to take their very good talent to the state tournament and that exactly what he did. Both years they drew one of the top teams in the tourney. He then left to be back with his family. What he has done since, does not have anything to do with Fleming County. Going to State tourney is very hard and very exciting. It does not happen every year. Fleming should be thanking Coach Starnes instead of trashing him every chance you get.

You beat who you have to beat. Region teams are most important if your goal is the state tournament.

I agree, to a point. They knew he was only going to be here 2 years. He announced that every chance he got. What they didn't expect was that he would totally alienate every other kid other than the studs. He spent no effort working on any of the young kids and wanted ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the feeder systems at any level. Now, you can say, that's what they get when you bring in a guy for 2 years but I think you expect them to have some professionalism and leave the program in some kind of shape for the next guy.

Tell me what Head Coach that has been at Fleming did work with the feeder system?

All have had a hand in hiring coaches and running the youth leagues. They might not be as involved as you would like but they at least claimed them as their feeder system and helped out as needed.

Coach Starnes went as far as to take balls away from a group because they were "his basketballs and not theirs". He complained when he was informed it was duty to run the youth league and pawned it off as much as possible.

Let's quit beating this dead horse and move on to who our next coach will be!

You are the one doing most of the beating.

I don't know of any credible coach that would want the job. Too much instability

Ok, I'm just a fan. I have said my part. I will step back and wait to see who our new coach is. Good luck to all involved!

Still think it's a bit fishy they fire Coach Taylor after one season, does anyone know who would be interested in the job? I don't believe there's much talent on the rise is there? I know in the past FC has lost a lot of good players to Montgomery and Clark CO.

I'll throw out a name that I think would be perfect for this job:

Chris Stapleton. He grew up in Mason County, so it gets him closer to home, and he's established himself as a quality assistant in every program he's been involved with.

Possibly Brian Miller? Sean Woods considering his son is a freshman?

Maybe they will change the rules and bring Robbie Graham back. They need someone who has some heart in the program instead of just a job.

You are 100% correct. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I agree that he had to deal with a ton of adversity this season with injuries, suspensions, etc... If this move was for wins and losses alone, it would be different. There was things outside that that came into play.

Again, I hope Coach Taylor lands on his feet and has success. I also hope Fleming County can find success.

What things on the outside came into play? A group of disgruntled parents unhappy with the fact that something new and fresh was happening for Fleming Co.? He came into the program not having any ties to the community and not knowing who's who. That must have ruffled some feathers with the parents that "run the athletics programs."
