April 30, 20179 yr I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in concert at the Corbin Arena last night and really enjoyed it. Ronnie VanZant's younger brother, Donnie, is the lead singer and IMO the group performed all their big hits as well as the group did before they tragically lost Ronnie and two other band members in a plane crash in 1977. Sellout crowd, too. And that did cause some issues getting into and out of the venue. Traffic was backed up for a lengthy time just getting to a parking lot. Then we had to load on Corbin school buses to take us up the steep hill to the arena. But the journey wasn't over once we got to that spot. A long line snaked through the parking lots outside the arena and we slowly crept forward until about 40 minutes later we entered the building. After the concert was over we had to wait outside with hundreds more people for a bus to take us back down the hill to our vehicle. That wait took about another 40 minutes. We finally made it to our vehicle around 11:30. The arena is a beautiful place but I don't think they have the infrastructure to handle the sellout concerts. I talked to some people who said they had been to other concerts there and it wasn't like that but the concert wasn't a sellout like this one. I asked some locals about the regional tournament there and they said usually the parking lots outside the arena could handle those crowds. But this one was different. Popular acts with big crowds might be a bit much for the arena.

April 30, 20179 yr Author How large is the venue? It appears to hold around 5,500-6,000. Seating isn't a problem but getting to the concert and back to your vehicle is the issue. Be prepared for some waiting.
April 30, 20179 yr All three access roads feed into or out of Cumberland Falls Hwy. If I remember right, the only traffic light is at the primary, after running through retail / restaurant / fuel gauntlet. Good news is that it's less than 1/2 mile from I-75.
April 30, 20179 yr Probably the biggest crowd for a show at the arena since its inception. The arena is really nice but as Professor outlined above, traffic can be an issue for really large crowds.

Donnie is a founding and current member of 38 Special, but he no longer tours due to health reasons. Would have loved to seen Black Stone Cherry, great band.

Would have loved to seen Black Stone Cherry, great band. Yep, I had the name wrong. That was pointed out to me today when I was discussing the band with a buddy at our golf course clubhouse.

There was also a bad wreck on Hwy 25 just past I-75 an hour or so before the opening acts started, which completely shut down the highway for 1 1/2 hours , which compounded the traffic problems. They need to build a road that connects directly to the Corbin Bypass from the Arena, which would really help the congestion.
May 5, 20179 yr This isn't the Expo Center,right? City leaders originally named the facility The David L. Williams Southeastern Kentucky Agriculture & Exposition Center but dropped Williams' name after they became upset with him.

A junior at at our high school and his older brother came back with higher praise for the first band than Skynyrd. I ask them out many hits the first group had in career and they said maybe one or two. I told them that group was going to have to come up with a boatload of top 10 hits before they can be mentioned in the same breath with Skynyrd.

I told them that group was going to have to come up with a boatload of top 10 hits before they can be mentioned in the same breath with Skynyrd. I feel sorry for today's youth. Most of my students have never even heard of The Eagles, Skynard, Boston, etc... They haven't a clue .
