I dont know, we have so many labels anymore, I dont know what to label anything.

 

One of the great mistakes IMO by Bush was labeling our conflict a "War on Terrorism."

 

Terrorism is a tactic, not an ideology. And the result is that we tend to only label Middle Eastern Radical Islamic acts as Terrorism and forget that walking into a church and killing 9 people because they are black is a terroristic act.

 

Shooting 3 white people and brandishing the cry of Islam, (in this case Nation of Islam brand) is an act of terrorism meant to strike fear in a perceived enemy.

I also think things like this promotes home grown terror. I mean you have an MSNBC ‘Counter terrorism analyst’ wanting ISIS to bomb property belonging to Pres. Trump. I just dont understand the hate and I guess Im glad I dont.

Probably because of the nature of the case, a man randomly kills unknown victims is actually pretty rare. In nearly every case murders are either carried out by someone that has a personal issue with someone or during the commission of another crime. Random killings like these and the DC Sniper are an entirely different animal. Being Muslim is just a part of this and possible explanation for the motive.

Yes we did. But what about the statistically 100's of others over the last week or so?? The Facebook murder was a unique situation and newsworthy because it was broadcast live.

 

I guess my point was, why only point out murders committed by Muslims, when the majority of the murders committed in this country are committed by non-Muslims. In doing so, we ignored the far more prevalent problem of why so many murders are committed in this country, and instead continue to paint the picture and fan the flames that all Muslims are dangerous.

I didn't have the benefit of reading that prior to my post, as we were posting at the same time..I wasn't ignoring your input.

 

But since you brought it up, when reading the article, it pretty clearly spells out what police believe the motive was....it's believed to be racially motivated. He also has a record a mile long and history of criminal behavior (weapons, drugs, terroristic threats, etc) as well as gang ties. However, it didn't seem important to point any of that out in the original post. The guy is just a bad person. Yet the only thing mentioned in the original post was his Muslim ties. As you mention, yes being Muslim might be part of the motive. But why leave the rest of the other stuff out if we are talking about possible motive, unless you just want to continue the "all Muslims are evil rhetoric".

Agree 100% on McVeigh, but I think Roof was just some very stupid kid who thought he knew something. but I may be 100% wrong too.
