I debated about even posting on this subject, but what the heck, here goes....I think some of the reason behind the JC fans wanting to run up the score has less to do with what happens on the field and more to do with the way the PHS fans and student have acted in the past, such as suggesting the county kids are less educated(by the way you should check the state test scores, this simply isn't true) and some other very crude references to the genetics of the county kids....I'm sure one of the PHS fans will say they are shocked by these statements(they simply wouldn't say such things...fake gasp...), but I've heard them myself. You see there has always been a belief among the PHS supporters and students that they are simply BETTER than "the hillbillies across the creek". I for one know that my children are getting an excellent education at JC and they have all the same advantages and maybe more than the PHS students. I do however share the disdain and disgust of some of my fellow JC alumni when I here such derogatory remarks from the PHS faithful. However, I also know many parents and students from PHS that I consider wonderful people. It's just a shame that a few can make the many look so bad.(and yes I realize this goes both ways)

 

So with that said I hope for a JC victory and an injury free game. Let's remember what games we have remaining, they are the important ones.

It does go both ways, and it is pointless, no matter which side says it. I stayed away from all the "lists" and wish everyone else would, too. There are bad "apples" from both trees and they sadly get heard from a lot more than the majority of classly folks in our community.

Every year JC wins the game, the newspaper ALWAYS has to put in there... (But Paintsville still leads the all-time series) WHO CARES!!!!! :madman:

 

The Paintsville Herald is notorious for always making Paintsville come out as good as possible. Anytime JC wins like you said they always point at the series W-L record to give Paintsville credit and if Paintsville wins its always a blow out or an upset. Like last year when JC beat Paintsville 50-6 instead of printing it in Fridays paper, which seems to always to be the matter if Paintsville wins, they what til Wednesday to write about it. Thats why i have nothing to do with the Paintsville Herald. They can keep there newspaper and try to build Paintsville up any way they want but the fact is the game is decided on the field and eveyone knows the true outcome when the game is done.

Well, I guess they will have to wait until Wednesday again this year. You may want to direct your complaint about the paper to one of Central's supporters, he was the one writing some of those articles in the past. :sssh:

The Herald's sports writer currently is another JC alumni but you wouldnt think so. I dont know how many times you pick up the paper and the article is written by someone other than her. Ah like I said thats why I dont subscribe and pay attention to the Paintsville Herald.

As someone that is not from Johnson County, maybe someone that is closer to this game can explain something to me. Why is it OK for JC to run up the score on Paintsville? Isn't JC a 3A (4A just a few years ago) school and Paintsville is a tiny 1A school? Schools in Jefferson County get blasted on BGP for running up the score on other 4A schools. I can't imagine the screaming if a Trinity or St.X fan boasted about running up the score with glee the way some JC posters are doing on this thread. Why is it OK in this case?

I agree with you in that I don't think it is ever a good decision to purposely run the score up on a team.

 

The thing about here in Johnson County is there are alot of different things at work.

1. You have the big school who never really put an emphasis on football until recently.

2. You have a small school who has alway been fairly successful. The big school has always had great athletes, but because of an unsuccessful football program many transfered across the creek. It bothers many of the JC people to see Paintsville winning and competing for state championships with teams that are predominately made up of county kids.

3. Not always, but sometimes the small school has been less than gracious in winning.

 

I think that alot of it is a revenge thing.

No! I don't think they ever cheated to get a kid. Matter of fact there is an understanding between the 2 school that allows kids to transfer. But, I guess its a pride thing with people around here.

 

I also agree that it is a lose-lose situation. If JC wins its because the beat-up on a poor little 1A school. If they lose its a huge upset. I also heard that each year both schools split the gate on the games. I heard estimates of 7000-8000 last year at JC. You'll be lucky to get 3000 at Paintsville. Finacially it looks like its a win - win for Paintsville.

 

Since JC has built a pretty good program the rumors have been flying that the game will be stopped, but I don't know. I know alot of people come to town for the Apple Festival which kind of like a homecoming for the county and the game is just part of the festival.

I'm sure it is very similar to the St. X / Trinity rival, but magnified.

 

Its one thing losing or beating your cross town rival in a city of 1 million and a town of 6000. I know its hard for you to believe but these people are our friends, neighbors and in some cases family. I know if you read the post on here you would'nt believe it, but its true. We go to church together and see each other everyday. I'm sure in Louisville you could go a whole year and never run into or speak to someone from the rival school. It is impossible here.

 

JC and Paintsville are less than 1/2 mile apart. Whom ever wins this game gets to brag about it for a year and who ever loses has to listen to the other brag. Thats really it in a nutshell.
