Finally, a Paintsville fan. Now we can have a discussion. :argue:

 

 

Please tell me a year that PHS has "ran it up" against Central. I know of a few years that we could have, but instead played everyone with a jersey in the 4th. In '98 (27-0) PHS won, but it could have been much worse. Also, in '01(40-22) PHS could have hung 60 in JC but Burr pulled just about all the seniors early in the 4th.

 

I'm glad Central has improved their football program, maybe our area will gain some more respect, we all need to learn how to handle success.

In the '01 game the coach calls a half-back pass on 3rd & 22, then a half-back dive on 3rd & 13 on back to back drives, what do you expect. Paintsville has never really ran the score up on JC. BUT, what about teams like Allen Central, South Floyd, Jenkins, Betsy Layne and Phelps. Paintsville always beats these teams by 30+ points. Paintsville might play everybody wearing a jersey and still score on them. That is more than likely what will happen this year, JC will put there 2nd and 3rd string players in early in the 3rd quarter, and keep them in the rest of the game. And to be honest, JC's 2nd string is better than Paintsville's varsity.

I suspect some Central fans' definition of "running it up" is any score greater than what the Eagles scored. :lol:

No, that isnt what I'm saying. I am saying that given the chance Paintsville will runup the score. Those schools mentioned are just the ones that popped in my head. The apple bowl to my knowledge is the only game played in Kentucky that has a traveling trophy for the winner. There is nothing like seeing your team carry off the barrel after winning in this game.

Ask you shall recieve... The biggest margin of victory by Paintsville was in the 1978 season, they won 35-0, I wasnt even thought of yet, so I dont know much about this game other than the score. Johnson Central has the biggest margin of victory in this game coming in the 1993 and 2005 seasons. In the 93' game JC won 56-12, getting "a little shag nasty" that game. And last year JC won 50-6. That is a 44 point margin of victory for JC.

From that point, Paintsville geared down and took it seriously (as evidenced by their winning the next 8 matchups).

However, I am not sure that Paintsville has had many...if any...opportunities to run up the score. That is, unless you count the middle school games in which Paintsville's 8th grade took advantage of a younger and less experienced JC 7th grade squad to run up scores. But, if you ignore that, Paintsville has been nothing but considerate and has shown great sportsmanship to Johnson Central. especially after those middle school games. Hey, now that I think of it, maybe that's how they were able to field those superior teams. Nah, that couldn't be it.

 

So, I take back what I said before about hanging 100 on the Tigers. Let us have pity on the hapless Tigers and let them win this one. That's the least we could do since the folks across the creek have been so thoughtful and considerate of us lowly county folk. I debated about even posting on this subject, but what the heck, here goes....I think some of the reason behind the JC fans wanting to run up the score has less to do with what happens on the field and more to do with the way the PHS fans and student have acted in the past, such as suggesting the county kids are less educated(by the way you should check the state test scores, this simply isn't true) and some other very crude references to the genetics of the county kids....I'm sure one of the PHS fans will say they are shocked by these statements(they simply wouldn't say such things...fake gasp...), but I've heard them myself. You see there has always been a belief among the PHS supporters and students that they are simply BETTER than "the hillbillies across the creek". I for one know that my children are getting an excellent education at JC and they have all the same advantages and maybe more than the PHS students. I do however share the disdain and disgust of some of my fellow JC alumni when I here such derogatory remarks from the PHS faithful. However, I also know many parents and students from PHS that I consider wonderful people. It's just a shame that a few can make the many look so bad.(and yes I realize this goes both ways)

 

So with that said I hope for a JC victory and an injury free game. Let's remember what games we have remaining, they are the important ones.
