8 point loss to Providence from Indiana, 14 point loss to Calloway County, & 12 point loss to Eastern.

 

I saw in another thread where he also played in the 16 point loss to Beechwood but the post stated that he may have initially hurt his hand in that game, as well as the coach pulled the starters for performance, then was subsequently damaged badly in a game or two later leading to him missing a lot of games.

Meade County also played Oldham County (a current top 20 team), John Hardin twice and Larue County (in addition to Valley, Bullitt East and N. Hardin). Some of those teams might have been in the top 20 at some point during the season or may be sitting just outside the top 20 right now. While the 3rd Region might not have had as much overall talent this year, Meade County did schedule aggressively.

 

Anyone who thinks that Meade County does not have other players is not doing their research (plenty out there). I would bet that Cooper's head coach is not solely focused on stopping Baker (especially after seeing some recent game film). Ask Daviess County's head coach who did most of the damage in the region championship game. I realize that losing so many games while Baker was out looks pretty bad, but they really should not have lost a bunch of those games (in my opinion).

 

I see where someone mentioned that Baker is not a dominant scorer. Not sure I understand that one. James Baker will be the most equipped player to dominate the game on the floor Thursday night, including scoring (feel free to make a case otherwise). Nobody can shoot from the distance he shoots, is as fast off the dribble as he is, or can rebound above the rim like he can. There may be more "skilled" players on the floor, but nobody will bring the type of athletic ability that he will bring.

 

Lastly, do I think that Meade County is a significant underdog in this game? Absolutely I do. Cooper obviously has a fantastic team that is capable of winning the whole thing. And if they do win Thursday night, I'll be pulling for them the rest of the tournament. I just want to make sure that I try to help paint a more appropriate picture of Meade County because some folks are much too focused on the team's record. This is a team that was in some top 20 polls at one point in the season. If Baker had not missed so many games and the team looked more stable throughout the year, I'm guessing that most would not be so dismissive. But here we are and it is a brand new season!

Certainly agree that anyone thinking the Baker young man is not dominant is sorely mistaken. Trust me, no one from Union, Ky is underestimating Meade. Everyone is 0-0. I'm more focused on what Cooper does vs. what Meade does because if they play the way they have playing of late I expect them to cause some problems for whoever they play.

I am not disagreeing that Baker is an great player either, he is fantastic. Also I am not focusing too much on their record, but that does say something. My focus is on the fact that the 3rd region was very weak this year, and the games against quality teams that Baker did play in, they weren't very good (Eastern, Beechwood) and lost to some average teams as well.

 

Cooper on the other hand has defeated some of the best teams in the state. They play in a much tougher region with a much tougher schedule. I just think they are more prepared in every way. I truly believe its a David vs Goliath game for Meade Co. Nothing against Meade, they are just playing a juggernaut. Just like I have nothing against NKU, but they really don't have the talent to matchup with a UK in the tourny.

 

One glimmer of hope for Meade, it is the sweet 16, and anything can happen. I fully expect them to put their best game on the floor and give it their all! Looking forward to the game!

That is a cool pic! 2 of my next door neighbors are playing for the Jags also. Tyler and Alex Ollier. What's cool is they went down to BG when my son played in the state title game for football in 2012 and now my son is coming home Friday after class to go watch them if they make it to the final 4 at Rupp, Love it!

As Mr. Sixer said, Cooper doesn't have open enrollment, none of the Boone Co. school system does.

 

For clarification, Walton-Verona is not part of the Boone Co. school system.
