I have to say that I really love this gym. It's great place to watch a game and the atmosphere is outstanding. My only complaint is the lack of air conditioning. I would think playing in that gym, especially by the second game, would be a very warm experience for the players. I'm surprised the 8th region hasn't come up with a plan to invest in an air conditioning system for that gym since they hold the region there every year. They turn the fans off during play because it can effect the ball flight from what I am told, and it gets really hot in there, especially during the second game.

 

Any thoughts on why this has never been done?

We have an old gym like that over here on this side of the river not too far from where I'm at called "the Pressure Cooker," bcos of no air conditioning and no fans. It's not quite as big as the Roy but when it gets too hot the ppl @ the top rows open up the windows to get some air. Its been around since the 40s I believe. Awesome place to watch a game, especially when it's full

I've been going every year since 1970. I don't ever remember it being that hot.

I like it there my biggest complaint is the PA. The guy is very good but their system is terrible and needs to be replaced.

True. Maybe the weather usually keeps it cool during play. This has been an unusual winter.

I would be extremely surprised if any 8th Region schools were pitching in funds to put air conditioning in the Henry County gym. First, who has that kind of money to give away? And second, would that even be legal?

It wasn't near as bad last night for the final as it was Monday night for the semi's. It was darn near unbearable Monday night, I don't think I have even been in a gym anywhere near that hot in early March. Do the windows up top open? If they do they needed a bunch open Monday night.

My complaint would be the parking. Yes, it's the largest gym and only one in the 8th big enough to hold the crowd for region, but just as a comparison the parking at Anderson is probably twice what it is at he Roy with a gym half the size. People having to park literally a half mile away on the highway both above and below the school on BOTH sides of the road is crazy and dangerous.

I should have worded that better. I didn't necessarily mean each school should kick in to upgrade their gym. I was thinking more along the lines of the 8th region saying to Henry County that the gym needs space conditioning if it is going to continue to be the favored gym to host the region. I know they renovated it once before. I'm just surprised that no effort has been made over the years to add space conditioning.

Passed through New Castle on the way to Warsaw on Tuesday and got caught up in the late-arriving Collins crowd in Eminence. Seriously considered stopping in but had other plans.

 

W/re. to the heat: Have they ever considered some of those BA Fans? Marion Co. has them in their gym and even though they seem to be barely moving, they make a huge difference. Henry Co. could easily use 3 if not 4 of them. Marion has a similar setup as far as the scoreboard being above center court, although it's much smaller than Henry.
