Would anyone have an issue with Home Schooled students participating in KHSAA Individual Sports like Golf, Tennis, Wrestling, Track, Bass Fishing or Archery?

Team sports or individual, makes no difference. Do you look at team and individual sports differently as far as this topic is concerned?

Absolutely should be allowed. Their taxes still go to support the school, and athletics is a good thing for everyone irregardless of if they attend the school or school at home.

What Big V said in post #32. There is no difference between a team sport and individual sport. You cant have different rules for both.

Assuming they pay property tax.

I'm talking about them competing independently in those sports, not affiliated with a local school. If I home school my son, why shouldn't he be allowed to participate in individual sports?

Oh OK, got you.

If they live in the district, whether they are renting or owning, they are contribuuting tax dollars to the school district. By shopping, dining out, buying gas, etc. School dollars come from many places. Including the businesses that thay would support.

All of my boys went to public school. I would not have had any issue with a home schooled student being able to participate with them in sports.

It's different, but probably makes as much sense as a kid who is enrolled in a school, but doesn't attend class, fails, but plays on the sports team.

I have no problem with this. As others have said, they pay tax dollars to support the school system and are using less than their fair share of what they are paying for.

There have been students attending one school play varsity sports for another school before so it isn't like this has never happened.

If they are not affiliated with a school they cant participate as they will not be members of the KHSAA, they wont be covered under insurance, they wont be compliant with the KHSAA bylaws. Remember KHSAA is a membership.

Covered under insurance? So if someone gets hurt playing sports, the KHSAA pays for their medical expenses?

So for $800 in dues (what small schools pay), would you allow a kid to participate independently?

If they are home schooled no.

If they are home schooled no.

Why, why can't a home school join the KHSAA for the same $800 it cost Pineville or Fulton?
