Thomas vs Clark, Who is the best running back?

Featured Replies

Ashland fans like Thomas, Russell fans like Clark. What a suprise.

Lets just compliment both on being great players and leave it at that.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but from my observation, Thomas is a great back with alot of speed and abilities! He has great speed and vision and can make you miss. His biggest problem is that he does not like to get hit. Once a team delivers a big shot on him, he runs a little timid after that.

As for Clark, also a great back! His biggest hold-up is he does not have the great speed. Things that he accels at are that he does like to hit and runs as hard as he can every play. He also possess' the intangibles that make great backs, he seems to be a leader. Now, I don't know about Thomas' leadership ability, he may be also, but Clarks leadership is evident from the sidelines.

Weighing all of this I think Clark would get the edge, mostly based on his leadership abilities!

Matt has learned this year how to take and deliver hits.

I'd take either one as a premier back......both would be a loaded backfield!

Matt has learned this year how to take and deliver hits.

Some backs, particularly speed back, are really timid when it comes to big hits. I loved Ron Blume! Another great back, but in my opinion he did not like hard contact, yet he still ran for over 2000 yards.

Maybe thats why they get to be so fast and elusive......because they're trying to avoid the crushing hits?????

Kasey has had the better career so far. But he also has the luxury of playing against weaker competition for the most part. I'm sure you Russell guys will have a field day with that comment  I think without a doubt Matt will play at a higher level in college. He still has one year left and his running style and speed translate better at the college level. Kasey could be considered a better high school back who may already have reached his full potential. Matt on the other hand had TREMENDOUS upside at the next level. He could easily reach 200 lbs and still maintain his speed. Either way BOTH are great players and will receive a free college education, which is what really matters.

Luxury of playing weaker competition? You're joking right? Who has Ashland played that is so great? Matt's a great back but he's had a few good games and they have come against 2A schools and P-burg is not very good. He's had a couple good games and Ashland fan's call him the best around. Don't get me wrong, I think Matt is a great back who could play college football somewhere(I think he'll play B-ball though). To say Kasey has reached his full potential is just crazy. I realize it's an opinion of a Tomcat faithful and you have to take it for what it's woth because Ashland fans will choose Matt and Russell fans will choose Kasey but you see him once a year which is not enough to determine a kid's potential. The skies the limit for both of these kids. I will tell you this, Kasey has NOT yet come near his full potential yet. Many collgege coaches will agree with me on that. You say Russell has the luxury of playing weak competition and I'll agree that their district is weak, except for Fleming, but their non-district and playoff schedule is not weak. Last year the non-district opponents consists of Ashland, Boyd, Greenup, Henry Co, Mercer, Newport, Belfry, Owensboro Catholic. Owensboro Catholic beat Ft. Cambell who had 6 D-1A recruits on the team. Catholic shut down Micah Johnson but could not shut down or even contain Kasey Clark. So to say Kasey has not played tough teams is absurd to say the least. We'll see how well Matt does against teams in 3A and I think that will be the measuring stick for him. See how he does against Johnson Central and in the playoff against teams who are the same size as Ashland. I hope he does well because I know Matt and wish nothing for the best for him. He's great kid who works really hard for everything he gets.

People say Kasey has not got speed. It's there, he just likes to run over people rather than run around them. I wish he would show his speed more often than what he does because people are starting to say it's not there. Well, it's there.

Oh WOW....This statement will make it to the Ashland lockerroom FOR sure. Of course "They" will never square off agian but we'll keep Thomas:ylsuper:

Much like Beach, Thomas has a good head on his shoulders, I'm not sure we can say the same for Mr. Clark.:creepy:

You seem to like cheat shots Onetoya. If you want to take cheap shots, go to a bar !!!!! :sssh: :sssh: :sssh: :sssh:

Is this even argueable?.. Clark hands down is the better back! Thomas has done nothing and all this hype about him being a great back is non sense, until he proves himself! This reminds me of Beach and West arguement of who is better, but all I can say is look at the record books.

I Think you would have to say Beach was ultimately the better back than West, based on what he was able to accomplish after High School.

Unless you have the same system and play the same competition, you can't compare stats in high school as an exact science or determine who is really better, although Thomas will never amass the stats Clark has had in high school. Clark has always been a runner, Thomas is just now starting to show his potential

Well said. :thumb:

Kasey is an all around athlete influences a game in many positions - RB is just one on them.... likely not his best position ... Kasey is immediate

Thomas is a wide reciever , playmaker ... physical to play RB but again likely not his best position in the long run ... Mr Thomas has more long term "potential" upside .. but potential in football especially high school is somewhat overrated ..

Both kids can play and Thomas is really coming on ... good for our area

It sure didn't look like anybody on Ashland's team was going to catch him on the long TD run that was called back. Only a flag 30 yards behind the play could stop that one.

I'll take Clark.

Reminds of you the Beach West argument? Obviously that has been settled...
