Simpler Rules for Golf

Golf unveils a modern set of rules to make it easier to play

Finally, this makes sense. It won't affect us hacks but should make the pro game easier to watch

In the event we are ever playing, and you hit a bunker shot that hits the lip and comes back to hit you in the chest, after I make sure you're ok, I'll gladly take your 2 penalty shots for sheer horse-laughing.:lol2:

I don't have any issues with any of this. While it won't impact most local players it will make it easier to deal with that golf Partner that thinks he is a PGA Official and wants to give you a stroke for not pulling the pin on a 75 foot putt.

..and lay out of sand traps when too close to the lip so I won't get hit with my ball.
 You know I have a mental video in my head of that happening. I don't know if we could complete a round if that actually happened. I might not be able to swing again from the laughter. Of course, it goes both ways. With my spectacular bunker acumen and all.

I think this is a good idea. Some are pretty stupid. It makes no sense to me to take a two-stoke penalty when a ball is "double-hit" on a pitch. One is already penalized because the second contact doesn't help, and yes the ball is contacted twice, but there is only one swing. There clearly is no advantage gained.

While we are at it, let's widen the fairways.

Actually Ben Hogan was a big proponent of a bigger golf hole. He actually petitioned the USGA about it. He said that there was no real reason why the hole is 4.25 inches wide. He thought the game should be more about ball striking and less about putting. I am with Ben! Make it 6 inches wide!
