I'm trying to remember if they've gone since the late 90's when they had the Moore twins. I think that was Tim Mefford's first year as coach.

Correct, 1998. Williamstown beat Bullitt East in the first round before losing to Oldham County by 11 in the semifinals. The last district title for Williamstown came in 1965 when they beat Gallatin County 75-61. They've won nine district titles in school history.

Another note: Williamstown had lost 17 straight district tournament games to Grant County. Their last (and only) district tournament win over the Braves was a 68-66 victory in the 1957 final at Owen County.

First time since 2000 that 4 "small" schools made the 8th Region Tournament in the same season.

Another note: Williamstown had lost 17 straight district tournament games to Grant County. Their last (and only) district tournament win over the Braves was a 68-66 victory in the 1957 final at Owen County.

 

I'm surprised they have only played 17 games in the past 60 years.

Would've swore they had won at least a couple more during the regular season. For some reason I thought they went into the regional tournament with a 9-19 record. They played a pretty tough regular season schedule that year, and even though they lost several of those games, they were battle tested by the end of the year.

Grant just didn't have enough offense to go toe to toe with Williamstown. I think GC came out with a good game plan and knocked down a couple quick 3's. But then Williamstown took the lead and GC seemed to start pressing a little bit. They got impatient offensively against the zone and either took a bad shot or turned it over. It's not really my place to dissect very analytically the performance of kids. Utter did an absolutely fantastic job with this team, but Williamstown was just simply better and Stanley and Fox make for a pretty good duo.
