Holmes at Ryle Predictions

Featured Replies

Holmes has some good players, no doubt. Here's what Fball stud said that I was reacting to:

"But like I said earlier, if the Holmes team that I know shows up, they will beat the Raiders."

So, when Holmes loses, he simply has an excuse: "The Holmes team I know did not show up."

The team that fballstud knows will show up and play their very best. So will Ryle.

I have to agree with fballstud. Holmes beats themselves more often than opponents beat Holmes. Holy Cross is a good example. HC is a good team. Holmes is better. HC played the whole game. Holmes forgot to come out for the second half. HC may them pay for it.

I don't think anyone will dispute that Ryle is a very physical team. But to say that they will "whip" Holmes........I'm not so sure. First, I don't think that Ryle's offense is really going to "whip" anyone this year. Especially at this point and time. It's a ball control offense that grinds it out and wears defenses down, which is fine and very effective. But certainly not going to put up any "whipping" scores. Holmes has some very good athletes, and when they play their game, they aren't chopped liver. Holmes always sneaks up on someone every year that thinks they "outmatch" Holmes in every way. Don't let it happen Raiders!

Whipping someone isn't outscoring them by fifty. Whipping someone is giving them such a physical beating that they begin to lay on the field, not wanting to finish the game.

I assume you are referring to last year's Holmes/Ryle matchup. As we all know, things change greatly in H.S. football from year to year. If we were to reference last year, I'd say that Dixie pretty much took it to Ryle in the season finale, effectively, by your definition, "whipping" them. However, I wouldn't draw the conclusion that because they did it last year, that it will happen again this year. Holmes is a good team, at times. IMO, a lot of this Ryle confidence is eerily similiar to last year's team. Remember Raiders, it's not how you start, it's how you finish that matters.

Good post OR. Holmes has gotten better as a team with Coach Trosper and staff each year. I'm not sure if they have arrived, but am certain that they can play with Ryle for a while. I still think Ryle is too much for the rest of 4A right now. So I'll update my prediction and pick Ryle by 21, though it will be close for quite a while.

I like Ryle in this one, a good solid team.

What FBstud is trying to say is that Holmes has the ability to play with Ryle. On that point, I'd have to agree. They certainly are talented enough, but they make too many silly mistakes. FBstud is saying if they don't make those mistakes, they could very well find themselves in the ballgame with Ryle. But if they do make the mistakes, he is saying that Ryle will capitalize and the game will be a blowout. Sounds like a compliment towards the Raiders to me. Don't get me wrong, I think the latter(mistakes) will happen, as per my prediction. But Holmes is scary good at times, especially when they don't beat themselves. I am in agreeance with FBstud, this will either be a nailbiter, or a no doubter. Obviously, we all know which one I'm rooting for.

Well said :thumb: Atleast one Raider fan and myself can agree on something ;)

But as for the game goes, it's Thursday so I'll make my prediction...

Way off base my man. Why would I use that as an excuse when I have given the Raiders all the credit in the world that they have EARNED. I know if Holmes makes the mistakes it will have to be somewhat due to the play of Ryle. I'm not too proud to say that.

All i meant (and OldRaider was smart enough to figure it out and understand as well), was that I said if Holmes shows up and plays their game, they can stay in the game and maybe pull an upset, but if not, Ryle would take it to them.

Ryle is way to much for Holmes to handle.
