KY police dept puts "The Punisher" on patrol cars

Featured Replies

The police department in Catlettsburg (Boyd County) has decorated several of its cruisers with a large hood decal depicting the emblem of the Marvel Comics character The Punisher, stylized with a blue American flag and the words "Blue Lives Matter".

Sure it looks cool, but does a police department really need to be doing anything to equate themselves, be it directly, or through implication and innuendo, to a fictional character known for being an antihero that operated outside of the law and who was distinguished for being violently and murderously obsessed with vengeance?

Yikes. Punisher exists as a character outside the law and for that reason employs coercion, extortion, torture, and every other means at his disposal to facilitate his one-man war on crime. I get what they were going for, but I'm not wild about that at all.

That logo for better or worse has been used in LE hats, cups, stickers and shirts for a few years. It started as military units (NAvy SEASL) used it and then some LE started using it also. The Punisher with a Blue Line is common (right or wrong) in LE merchandise across the country.

Google Law Enforcement Punisher and you will see this design has been put on a ton of stuff.

I don't think they take it as literal as that, I think most think it's a cool logo (not defending, just explaining)

I think the logo on the hood is tacky FWIW.

Never heard of the Punisher so the logo would not make me think anything other than it's ugly.

I think that's how most look at it, even many in LE don't know what the comic Punisher is all about.

And I don't think they did either. Heck, I enjoy the Punisher as a character (despite some decidedly fascist tendencies), but he definitely doesn't display the ideals of due process and respect for the law that I'd like an arm of the government to project.

In poor taste in most neighborhoods. However, in neighborhoods with high tension with law enforcement, this is down right stupid. It is the equivalent of a gang tattoo.

Have you ever been to beautiful downtown Catlettsburg?:lol2:

Yep, the Rush Rumblers vs the Durbin Destroyers. Gang warfare in Boyd is amok.

Never for very long. Passed near a few times en route to Ashland and sever others to head across the bridge further East, especially while my sister was living in Charleston, WV.

Why? Is it basically like Compton over there? :D

Ha, nope. It's just not much really. I have several friends who are either on the Cburg force or the county police. Pretty good guys for the most part. Typical eastern KY crime. Drug issues mostly.

Yes!

Dad of my freshman dorm next-door neighbor was a state trooper. Visited once or twice back in the day.
