Well I wasn’t trying to say that Ashland didn’t need to improve because it’s very clear they are plenty of room to improve, but as a fan watching the game, I never seen Ashland in trouble.

 

In all sports there is a thing call momentum you can’t see it on the radio and as much as I like Dickie he calls a game from his own perspective. Point is, I never seen Prestonsburg have the momentum.

 

Most teams that are playing at home are going to give you their best game early while they are fresh. This team did the same thing that W/Portsmouth did, their defensive line backers were standing in the gaps on the line.

 

This type of gambling makes the OL line look bad, but like Portsmouth the physical toll it takes starts to show in the second half, along with that coaches need to see the field, as they did the Portsmouth game, and make adjustments in the blocking assignments to exploit the uncovered areas.

 

Ashland needs to develop a quick pass, just pass the secondary, maybe an in-turned button hook something like that will quickly stop the blitzing “gap standing” line backers.

 

Hey, I’m just a fan that loves to watch Ashland, I did my share of coaching many years ago, my son is 36 so it’s been a lot of years since I stood on a field

But I still get a thrill out of watching a good game..

I'm glad to see that someone has finally realized that. The Tri-State that takes in Ashland (Boyd County) Huntington (Cabell County) and Ironton (Lawrence County) has a population of 206,895 by the 2000 census I'm glad you noticed. If you add in Greenup Co. KY, Scioto Co. OH, and Wayne Co. WV all that would claim rights to being from the "Tri-State" that number grows to 397,201. So I guess you right in a way....As far as being a suburb of Huntington?? If that hospital in our town grows any larger in Ashland they might give its own area code.

 

But seriously we draw from a population of about 22,000 no where near the 60+ thousand in Huntington. And we haven't been a suburb since OJ and the boys left:rolleyes:

Ft. Thomas, Ft. Mitchell, Covington, Newport, Hamilton OH, etc. are suburbs of Cincy.

 

J-town, Jeffersonville IN., Shively, most of Oldham Co., etc. are suburbs of Louisville.

 

In a like manner, Ironton OH, Chesapeake OH, Ashland, Cattletsburg, Ceredo WV, Kenova WV, etc. are Huntington suburbs.

 

The biggest city in a given urban area gets the right to call the lesser surrounding cities its "suburban area". That's just how it is.

 

It's not intended as a cut, nor as any kind of out-of-state recruiting allegation. I was simply referring to Ashland without using its name.

In the second, P-burg won on the infamous "snake in the grass" play. The third was a simple whitewash over an admittedly poor Blackcat team. But this year's game, while Ashland was clearly the better team, it was still a competitive football game.

 

Of course, if Ashland could induce a NKY/CKY/S.WV/S.OH power into a home/home series, it makes more sense.

I understand your view oneijoe. Prestonsburg HAS been a competitive game for Ashland. I, however, dont belive that the... "rivalry" for lack of a better word is good for these two programs. We saw a young man get injured last week and could have seen more. The Prestonsburg/Ashland games seem to get a little intense and may need a few years to cool off not only for the players but for the coaches and fans as well.

Calling Shively a suburb to Louisville and Ashland a suburb to Huntington is POOR logic OneIJoe.

 

I usually respect you comments, but your off base here. Shively blends into Louisville to the point where you cannot discern a difference between the two.

 

Ashland is 13 (i'm going off old memory) miles from and nearly half the size of Huntington. I don't think its a valid comparison. If you want to gripe, fine. I understand and even encourage it, but the "suburb" comparision is weak IMO.

 

Why not just tell your true opinion of the series (within the limits of the rules of course) and quit trying to reach a level of nuance that isn't fitting?

I think you need to check your record book I believe they have played 8 times counting this year? With P-burg picking up 1 win a couple years ago. And I won't go there. 4 of these games were prior to the 1984 season, just wondering if anyone knew about those games?

If you're looking at the entire history of P-burg/Ashland football, Ashland dominated in the 4 games played from 1935 to 1941. Historically, Ashland was a true juggernaut then. As a matter of fact, Prestonsburg didn't even score in those games... :eek:

 

I don't know why you said "prior to the 1984 season"... In reality, there was a span of more than 60 years between the 4th and 5th games of the all-time series !!

 

The only other 4 meetings are the recent series which begun in 2004. I already mentioned those earlier.
