February 1, 20179 yr Last night on the news, the channel 19 reporter said they would average between $22 and $26 an hour. I thought that was an extremely high number. Nice, I hope that is the case. Seem way too high.
February 1, 20179 yr Yeah about what I expected. It's good and bad at the same town. Amazon is literally going to take over everything. They moved a huge warehousing operation to Louisville a while ago. Absolutely crushed UPS in initial hiring by offering high pay. People are starting to realize that unlike UPS, that pay is capped at not a ton higher than than the initial rate and the benefits are almost sad by comparison. It's evening out a bit. Still making seasonal hiring at non-Amazon companies a real pain.
February 1, 20179 yr Nice, I hope that is the case. Seem way too high. I hope so too. When it was said, I almost wondered if it should've been $22k-$26k per year instead. :lol2:

February 1, 20179 yr You can't say for sure but it looks like Bevin made this happen. You can speculate Beshear would of made this deal but this will be the largest Economic move by acompany to NKY in history. So Beshear never had a deal like this in his tenure in the region. Up until 2 months ago when Bevin started sitting in meetings it looked like Amazon was heading to Wilmington, OH. Amazon plans worldwide cargo hub, 2,7 jobs at CVG They already were in Wilmington at the old ABX hub.
February 1, 20179 yr They already were in Wilmington at the old ABX hub. I don't know what exactly is in Wilmington I know by the article they were doing a trial there and decided to create the jobs in NKY instead.

February 1, 20179 yr Can somebody explain "landing fees" and how this deal will eventually make the ticket pricing structure better for CVG passengers? Will it attract more airlines and passenger traffic? When planes land at airports they have to pay a fee to do so. (its how the airports themselves, make revenue, among other things.) CVG basis their landing fee on weight of aircraft (some do it by flat fee per type of aircraft). With cargo planes weighing way more than passenger planes, they will pay more in landing fees. How this helps passenger aircraft is that if the airport is getting enough fees in via cargo planes, they will sometimes reduce the rate on passenger aircraft. This can backfire though, as it did in 2003 after DHL built their new facility. CVG raised the cargo rates for landing fees. DHL (having bought ABX) said screw it and went to Wilmington for a few years. Then CVG came back and lowered the rate (they had too at the same time Delta and Northwest were merging and CVG was losing all its passenger landing fees too.) DHL came back after that and rented out the old ABX hub to Amazon, who will now be their neighbors.
February 1, 20179 yr According someone I worked with at DHL back in the day that is high up at the Wilmington Hub, this was as much as Kasich blew it as Bevin won it. Once Amazon started talking with KY Kasich had no care in the world whether Amazon stayed/built in Wilmington or not and Bevin just put out a little better deal. Makes sense for Amazon, only have to truck their freight 10 minutes, sort, and on the plane it goes. CVG gonna be a busy place from 10pm to 5am.
February 1, 20179 yr I think businesses make moves like this for business reasons. Agreed and the business reason at least in part was the package Bevin put together.
February 1, 20179 yr Agreed and the business reason at least in part was the package Bevin put together. Anything Bevin or any other politician involved in the process did would and could have been done by other politicians and was only a side factor. These companies decide where they want to end up based on business operating issues and then squeeze what they can out of the politicians.

The business does what is best for their bottom line and the good politicians do what they can to get those jobs for their citizens.
February 1, 20179 yr Why? Do you think this doesn't happen regardless of who is governor? I am no fan of the governor at all. He has overstepped his power a few times and is just wrong IMO on other things. He is a buffoon with his childish antics in some cases. He was in on the meetings and seemed to be a player. It may have happened whomever, was governor. But they weren't so I will acknowledge a positive result whenever it happens. I still wouldn't vote for him again. Tea party libertarians do not go with my philosophy of most things. But this is good.
February 1, 20179 yr Oh, I agree this is great news. My point is Amazon didn't move here because of Bevin and that if anyone else was governor, Republican or Democrat, Amazon would have made this move. Does anyone think differently? Does anyone think Bevin made a difference in making this deal happen? Would Amazon have moved here if someone else was governor?

It comes down in most cases as to which community wants something and is willing to get it. Think about all of the Kudos, rightfully so, that Martha Layne Collins received from the Toyota deal. She was able to out work and make a better offer than the other states did. Saying it would have happened any way is like say Anthony Davis or John Wall would have came to UK if Billy Gillespie was here too. The recruiter deserves some credit because just like Davis and Wall, Amazon could have went anywhere. Would they have moved here if there was another Governor, Maybe...maybe not.
