Eight years ago virtually the exact same thing happened when Beshear was Governor. DHL moved its operations from Wilmington OH to CVG. 2,400 employees now work at DHL's hub at CVG. A very similar business operation. It's the business reasons people - not who the politicians are.

If Ohio offered a far better tax incentive for them to go Wilmington, I would think they would have taken it.

And as they negotiate back and forth, the tax deal becomes less of a difference because the offers get closer and closer on that side of it.
February 2, 20179 yr This was awesome news for NKY and Cincy area. What I'm hoping is this motivates Southwest and Delta to expand their number of flights with the decrease in landing fees. Especially Southwest. It will also be interesting to see how this blossoms for Amazon. The opportunity for the hub to grow larger is certainly there.

Delta CVG will soon announce enhanced service to 13 of their 35 non stop routes. 6% growth in seats. And additional first class seating. We still will never see the days of of the once hoping hub.
February 2, 20179 yr I'm not sure what the hourly rates will be for the employees. I did work at Amazon during summers and depending which of the 3 buildings you worked at and department your wage changed. I worked at CVG3 (warehouse that keeps the other Amazon warehouses that send stuff to customers stocked) during the day and made $11/hr in the outbound department. Inbound department made from $11.50-$12.00/hour. At CVG1 and CVG2 they made more than people at CVG1 by a dollar or more so because they shipped directly to customers. This doesn't even account for people who work the night shift as I'm sure they make a little more as well. Also I was told when I started working their during my summers a number I'd years ago at $11/hr that the max I could make was $14/hr. Just highlighting some of the things people were wondering in this thread and what I remember from my past experiences.

DHL also built a huge multi million dollar facility at CVG because they got tax breaks from the state of KY (and the airport board.) Yes they were already operating at CVG at the time, but there were plans to build at Wilmington as well. (in reality DHL did both)
February 2, 20179 yr Can somebody explain "landing fees" and how this deal will eventually make the ticket pricing structure better for CVG passengers? Will it attract more airlines and passenger traffic? The article didn't make much sense on that. Unless they think increased volume would cause the to airport lower fees. But they're already relatively low from what I understand.
