January 22, 20179 yr Liberal/ Conservative is ok because I think it ties into your beliefs. Republican or Democrat attaches you to a group of people who you may disagree with and that frustrates me. I'm a "republican", but I would never have voted for Trump in a million years. But since I'm a "republican" I'm attached to him. That bothers me. I'm a Republican and I have no problem saying it. Republican isn't a political philosophy, it's the largest party that is close to my ideals. My political philosphy is essentially libertarian and I believe there is a ground swell of younger Republicans who fit the bill. What you describe in your post comes off caring to much what other people think and if someone judged me based on my political party alone I have no need to associate with them. I don't understand what bothers you. If you don't agree with things he does voice your opinion or do what I do and work at the ground level of the GOP influencing the direction in the way you want it to go.

I think the label of either party is painting with a very large brush and attaches me to other people who have somewhat similar beliefs but their priorities are vastly different. I try to never use either term to describe people. Just curious to see how you all feel about it. More than not I appreciate your moderate views and this time is no exception. No matter how I comment on here there will be those who already automatically have me figured as being an extreme left winger elitist. January 22, 20179 yr I recognize parties as a necessary evil for democracy to function. But, I don't want to be associated with one, at least not with the options available. I sacrifice my ability to vote in primaries to maintain independence.

They are assuming I'm an adament Trump supporter because I've always leaned "republican" then I have to explain to them why I'm not excited that Trump is now President.

I wish we had a three part system that legitimately gave a third party a chance. Bring back the BullMoose or Whigs. Having three or even four parties would almost create a relegation system like they have in European soccer And no I don't like being labeled bc I vote based on who I like not party
